Thank you all for your kind words, and I have learned so much by your stories. Below is my dad's story. It is through writing that I am able to spend time with him.

We Need to Talk More About Liver Disease and Diabetes
Your Dad's story brought tears to my eyes. I understand how sharing his story is therapeutic in so many ways. It's a wonderful testimony to his memory and his life. It also can save someone else's life by giving them the knowledge that they need to be screened. I lost a beloved cousin in January 2020 to HCC. She never dreamed she could get liver cancer because she had never drank , alcohol, smoked and certainly never had no drug use. They found hers when they were running tests prior to gallbladder surgery. Turns out all her pain wasn't from gallstones. Praying that sharing our loved ones stories will raise awareness and bring about change. My husband definitely had all the risk factors associated with HCC - long term heavy alcohol use and Hepatitis C. Both had already caused liver disease but they never screened or mentioned cancer. Even after he started experiencing pain that was radiating up to his shoulder.
Praying that sharing your father's story will help with your grief. I feel that making others see him as a husband, father, grandfather instead of just a statistic helps raise awareness of the reality of HCC. Our loved ones weren't just one of whatever number who lost their lives to HCC. They were individuals who were loved and whose lives should be remembered.

Thankyou for sharing your dad’s story. What a wonderful well loved man and what a legacy he has through you! I am an RN, and know firsthand how you second-guess yourself When you are part of the medical profession and encourage you to realize that even specialists in this field are missing signs and that is part of the mission we can have to honor your dad and my husband with raising awareness of a disease that has not been well known in our country. I just shared the guidelines you had shared with my husband’s sister, who is a type two diabetic and has a fatty liver and stressed to her the importance of requesting that her physician screen her on a regular basis so you are already making a difference. Best to you! ❤️🙏🏻 Bonnie
