Hi everyone. Ive just started statins, and wondering whether they can actually reduce blood pressure too ? I'm on lercanidipine and candesartan and gp wants me to increase candesartan to 32 mg which is the maximum but that dose can damage kidneys. So Id like to carry on with 16 mg and see if the statin ( rosuvastatin ) can make a difference . Does anyone else have experience of this ?

statins

hi middles, I also take Lercanidipine 10 mg and sometimes 30 mg, I was prescribed statins last year (Ezetimibe) however I could not tolerate the side effects, so I stopped taking it, I would rather suffer the cholesterol!! I have never heard that the statins contribute to lowering the blood pressure, it would be good if it's true.
We understand that the purpose of statins is to reduce the 'bad' cholesterol that makes our blood sticky and presumably, thicker than ideal, so it's tempting to imagine that this might have an effect on the pressure necessary to move that liquid around. I've read somewhere recently that taking statins can have an effect of lowering your averaged readings by a couple of millimetres of mercury. But whether that is a) true and b) has a significant effect on our wellbeing, I dont know!
candesartan is a blood pressure reducing med, but I wouldnt expect a statin to work in the s ame way apart from reducing the cholesterol levels.
I'm on Atorvastatin, it hasn't helped reduce my blood pressure in any way. That's not its purpose, it's sole purpose is to reduce your cholesterol levels.
