Amlodipine and swollen body

Has anyone suffered acute leg and upper body swelling while taking amlodipine.Hubby was put on it in hospital in April just days before being discharged, since then he has had water retention causing cellulite s and bloating ,which his Dr keeps saying is wind, he had a Stroke 3 years ago so can't move to reduce the water in lgs.

To be honest he can't sit in his wheelchair as he can't bend due to the swelling.

Amlodipine is the only new med , but his Dr says it can't be that as it only affects ankles???

Hi, I was on Amlodipine and it was awful, after around six weeks I suffered with red puffy fingers that then started to blister, also my finger nails became very thin. Went back to doctors and the said it was Dermatitis which I knew it was not but they prescribed creams which did nothing. Eventually after seeing multiple doctors they agreed it was a side effect. They prescribed water tablets but I have not taken them at all, as just don’t trust any meds now. However I am now taking a natural Hawthorn tincture which is working well for me.

It sounds like he is having an acute and unusual reaction to the Amlodipine. My nephrologist took me off Amlodipine 10mg because he didn't like the swelling in my ankles (which honestly I didn't think was that bad). It caused my BP to totally destabilize. (Between you me and the lamppost I think Amlodipine was the only BP medication that was actually doing its job). My primary care doctor then put me back on Amlodipine 5mg and my ankles are just fine (and so is my blood pressure!). When you got your Amlodipine, there should be some kind of flyer inside that lists ALL the side effects. Take a look and see what it says about unusual side effects.

I was taken off Amlodipine after a few days because of badly swollen ankles and feet, my fingers and face were also swollen.

Partner started taking Amlodipine in Dec 2023. GP said come back if ankles swelled or if he got headaches. Within a month his ankles were swollen and he had headaches. They gave him Ramipril too. Ankles got bigger. More Ram. Bigger ankles and swollen and red up to his knees. More Ram. They gave in after the 4th time he told them. Then they gave him Dozsomethingorother. He got blinding headaches. Rang 111 while on short break. Got sent to Urgent Care. Stop the Doz. They did a prescription for Lercanodipine (?spelling). Similar to Amlod, they said, but with fewer side effects. It is also a more expensive drug. Ankle swelling almost gone after a month. Still on Ramipril.

You would think they would be able to relieve the gas with some kind of simple medication.

yes swelling so common on Amlodipine although mostly feet, legs and when on 10mg . My feet like tomatoes , reduced to 5mg, bit improved but not happy so am cold Turkey for ten days then starting Lacidipine which like Lecardipine supposedly less swelling, redness. Will let people know. Wouldn’t think tummy anything to do with blood pressure meds but obviuosly needs a reassessment of all drugs on current prescription.

I looked up side effects of Amlodipine and under Rare side effects I noticed this: "excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines" So maybe it really is from the Amlodipine.
