Hi Lucy,

I'm so sorry that you are having these issues.

My understanding is that some antihypertensives can impact kidney function but I am unsure to what extent. I take both amlodipine and losartan and have an annual blood test for kidney function.

Have you spoken to your GP about this?

Hi dovedaleThank you for you response my dr has messaged me to make an appointment now the results of the 2nd test is in. If this is because of the meds I am quite surprised how quickly this has happened

It could be that you had high BP for sometime without knowing which can affect kidneys and now you're under the medical world your blood work is showing this. High BP can affect kidney function. I'm on Losartan too, which should act as a protective. Hope all goes well with your results.

It's probably best to wait until your GP appointment and discuss it with him/her. There are other meds if ramipril is not suitable so I'm sure your GP will be able to come up with a compromise.

Do let us know how you get on.

Hi Lucy60 sorry you're having these issues. I have had similar experience recently with Losartan 25kg. I questioned this with GP she said no connection but it says on meds info 1 in 10 patients have kidney problems. I am speaking to pharmacist today as not happy continuing with Losartan. This is my 6tb BP med so quite concerned now. Good luck to you.

Sorry just as a further comment I had a kidney function test just before beginning Losartan which was fine.

Hello Lucy60, I think you need to speak to your Gp or practice nurse or maybe even your chemist. This is a medical issue that needs explaining more fully. Kidney function does reduce in some people with age . Most people with high blood pressure have annual blood tests and sometimes need retesting. I have had higher than average blood pressure for most of my life, so understand your concern.

My GP said he was reluctant to take me off Ramipril because it is protecting my kidneys? I have been taking it since 2011 with no problems but I would speak to your GP.
