I’ve always had highish BP and definitely white coat hypertension. But my BP seems to have gone up. Have started home testing to get a better / rested reading. But was wondering if there is a link with thyroid. I had have my thyroid removed about 10 yrs and haven’t been on meds for that. They stopped testing function a while back as it seemed stabilised but wondered if the two might have a link and if that’s something I should ask to be tested before going any further

Is there a relationship between blood pressure and thyroid function?
Shame no replies ad I'd be interested to know too ! My thyroid is underactive
I have recently started on BP meds Amlodipine - started on 5mg but now on 10mg (only in last couple of weeks). I also have an underactive Thyroid which seems to decide to play up from time to time so my Thyroid meds need rebalancing, so to speak. When I went to my new GP he told me there is a link between underactive thyroid function and high BP levels so currently going through blood tests to try to stabilise all levels. He also noted that my Vitamin D levels (sunshine etc) were too low and said this could also impact on blood pressure too - prescribed Vit D capsules twice weekly for now. Having next blood tests at start of October (will have been on meds for 4 weeks then) so will be interesting to see what levels will be. Originally BP was 240 systolic at start of September. Hope this helps, I will report back when the results are through.
If you have no thyroid you absolutely MUST be on replacement thyroid hormones. Probably start with Levothyroxine and if that doesn't work go onto Natural Desiccated Thyroid (NDT) - and join the Thyroid forum on HealthUnlocked where your will find the best information in the world regarding thyroid problems.
First get a full thyroid panel from your doctor. If s/he balks at this then get a private blood test through Medichecks. Don't argue with your doc since s/he apparently doesn't know anything about thyroid conditions, otherwise you would be on thyroid meds immediately after your total thyroidectomy. Oh Ssujh1, I cannot imagine your state after being without thyroid hormones for 10 years! You may also need an MRI of your thyroid area in case it is beginning to grow back - this is a rare condition, but an interesting one, please let us know the outcome of this since it would be very rare (but wonderful)
Get your results and repost this inquiry on the thyroid forum (+ the results of your blood test).
Now, as for your BP, to be honest anything could happen to any of your organs after 10 years of starvation of thyroid hormones and it's difficult to say without your current status. Go get a full thyroid panel either from your doc or privately and post it on the thyroid forum. You will then get a full spectrum of diagnoses plus how it is probably affecting your heart. But don't delay, this is serious stuff.
Sorry - misstatement in my original post. Had HALF my thyroid removed, not whole. Sorry!
OK, that helps!
Too much T3 can send your BP up - I am one of those people, I would love to increase my T3 just a little but as soon as I do my BP goes to 170/X so I have to compromise and settle for getting tired in the late afternoon instead of riding my bike (lol). So you must find out what your thyroid hormone levels are and if your T3 is over normal, that is the problem.
No I don't know sorry but would also be interested in that.
