First Time Using Water Tablet

Been hovering on the brink of taking meds as BP been high recently. I had a virus-no Covid symptoms -and now having palpitations/nausea/light headed/short of breath. Paramedics called out one evening as 180/120 and feeling awful. In recent years I start at 150/95 then down to 140/88 till some days I get 135/84. Fluctuating but was so desperate my GP gave me water tablets-Lorvax XL 1.5mg. I took one this morning and haven't seen any significant improvement but down to 137/87 from 167/95 this morning.

Does anyone have any experience of their first time meds? I asked for smallest dose possible as I have a really sensitive metabolism and react to meds. Not sure if the palps are related to post Corvid cardiac issues as many people presenting with long covid related cardiac issues-palps/light headed. Any help would be appreciated-I have a clinic at neurology for Friday and am on waiting list for Cardiology at Leeds LGI.

Hello celticlady. We’re not clinicians here and you’re seeing a cardio and neuro soon so whatever we say on this forum should be taken with a pinch of salt. NO it shouldn’t, salt is one of the things that puts your BP up.Sometimes it takes a bit of time to get the pressures down, and you’re wise to start small. Often, once you’ve got used to a particular medication but the BP isn’t quite under control then they add a different type of medication. Have your medics talked about lifestyle and diet? You’ll get hints and tips about this from Blood Pressure UK.

I like to think of medication this way: my body isn’t quite doing what it should and is lacking in something, so the medication is putting me back to where I should be I try to embrace it rather than be frightened of it’s possible side effects.
