Lisinopril 10mg

2 weeks on Lisinopril and for last 4/5 days feeling very dizzy. I take this 10mg tablet before bed as advised as I knew one side effect was dizziness along with dry hacking cough. I have been coughing but not enough to stop this medication at moment.

I just wondered if anyone else had dizziness when starting this bp tablet and how long should it continue? I am quite concerned as I even get in during the night when I turn over in bed!

Anyone who reads my posts will know the trouble I’ve had finding a tablet I can tolerate. I have tried one from every category of bp medication!! I have a VERY kind understanding GP who phoned me a week ago and was overjoyed with my readings and at the time I had no bad effects. Hence, I am loathe to ring him so any advised from you would be appreciated.

I’m fine on LIsonopril BUT just because you’re dizzy doesn’t necessarily make it the fault of your medication. I’m dizzy when I turn over in bed or look up to the sky when I’m pruning shrubs. In my case I know it’s from BPPV.

Well I’m NEVER dizzy so I am absolutely positive it’s the medication just wondered how long I’d be feeling like this as I cannot drive.

Hi Shadynook. If you have a look at the leaflet in the box it will probably say that dizziness is one of the side effects. You can also check the NHS web site which lists dizziness as a common side effect. It may be that the dizziness will only last for a little while or even a few weeks so maybe try it a little longer. The dizziness could be due to the reduction of your BP. The one thing you could do for possible peace of mind is ring your pharmacist preferably or your GP and ask advice, pharmacists are very knowledgable about medications. Good luck. x

if something is making you that dizzy that you cannot drive, dont take it,obviously its doing you harm, lets be honest if you had not got high bp would you keep taking something that makes you ill.there are alternatives to these pills to bring bp down, but it involves a bit of lifestyle changes, ie diet exercise, meditation i know ive done it and it works ,if you want your life back, i did it,was not going to live a life of feeling bad everyday just on the off chance id have a heart atack or stroke which can happen anyway, or in your case fall over with dizzines bang your head or fall in the road etc,way up the odds,

You should be posting this to Shadynook not me peter. I know you have decided not to take medications and how you are trying to combat it as you have posted about it before but I am not going to be the one to recommend that no-one takes BP meds as that should be their decision or their GP's.

Well you did and thank you!I agree with you and admire your tenacity!! I have tried the natural way, diet exercise and stress management but sometimes it’s an hereditary problem. My mother had hypertension my sisters got it and I have. I’ve just turned 70 and until now have never been on daily medication. I’ve tried exercising more but unfortunately I have arthritis in my knees 🙄 I have taken apple cider vinegar beetroot juice pomegranate juice but nothing seemed to bring my bp down.

Today it’s 125/74 and apart from the dizziness I feel fine. I would need to go on a very restricted diet if around 800 calories a day to loose weight as just cutting down doesn’t work for me. If I am over weight it’s only by maybe a stone so it’s very difficult and I’ve decided life is too short to not be able to have the occasional slice of cake or a piece of chocolate!!

Each to his own but I do admire you and onwards and upwards eh!

Wow! 125/74 is remarkable for 70. How high does your blood pressure go when you are not taking medication?

When I contacted GP back in November 2020 it was 170/100! I took it over a week and it didn’t drop much more than 158/90 so he prescribed 5mg Amlopodine and that’s where my journey began. Still feeling very lightheaded worse in evenings but will give it another week got blood test Wednesday to check kidney function.

That's a wonderful drop from your initial reading. Wish you the best that Lisinopril will work for you.

Good morning Happyrosie. I spoke to my GP yesterday re dizziness he thinks it could be viral maybe laberynitus? I told him about the cough I’ve got which is worse at night in bed actually causing a disturbed nights sleep. I’ve also noticed my hairs coming out when I brush it and in the shower. He did say this can be a side effect 🙄 I am sticking with them for a couple more weeks got blood test today to check kidneys.

Happy Easter!!!

Just a short comment, the dizziness may be related to the drop in B/P so your body is adjusting. It’s a great pressure so hopefully it will resolve in the next few weeks. I hate feeling dizzy 🥴.

Thanks for your reply can I just ask does this bp medication cause hair thinning? I’ve only taken them for 2 weeks and I’ve notice my hair is a lot thinner.

I don’t know , can u read the info enclosed in the box of tabs. I have noticed my hair thinning over the years but it’s not a side effect of my meds.

The dry cough is a known side-effect. Usually just in the morning for me.

Shadynook profile image

No you can take them whenever you like but best to keep to same time so you don’t forget ☺️ I just took mine at night because if the dizziness they were causing but seems to be getting less . Still got a dry cough especially during the night which is annoying but will give it a while longer in the Hope it goes 🤞🏻
