Hello All, I have been taking this drug at a dose of 10 mg (increased from 5 mg) since January 2021. Since going up to the higher dose I have had periods of dizziness… The worse being this morning, when I woke up and felt ever so dizzy followed by about one hour later with standing up from sitting down and then a sudden onset of dizziness again and then...I collapsed!! I then had an ironing board fall on my head. I had a bit of a headache afterwards and had a sleep but still feel a little dizzy. What’s going on?? Should I have gone to the hospital??
I live alone so am a bit worried that it might be a worse scenario next time.

I think it's time you had a word with your GP and told him/her what's going on. Do you have stairs? If so, you have to think of that as I had a very nasty accident due to a BP med (not Amlodipine) several years ago due to dizziness. Also, when do you take your tablets? I was told to take Amlodipine in the evening (I'm on 5 mg) and a pharmacist told me that his elderly mother took them in the evening before she got into bed in case of dizziness but I don't know what dose she was on. Firstly though, have a word with your GP because they should be aware of what's going on for the sake of your safety. Good luck. x
I was on 5mg if Amlodipine and my blood pressure was still high when went to doctors for BP check, they increased to 10 mg, after a while I felt not well, my blood pressure had dropped, but I wasn’t agreeing with higher dose, so doctor put me back on 5mg, I am feeling better, so I would go back to your GP and have a chat with them, I realise everyone is different, but go have chat it will make you feel better
I had to contact 111 as my GP had no appointments available.
It turns out that I have a condition called BVVP which is a type of vertigo. The doctor dismissed the link with amlodopine and has prescribed Semitil. I’ll see how that goes.
I have to say though that I need a break from symptoms as I’ve had SLE for years and have continuous problems...really don’t need another. ☹️
Rather than increasing the dosage of one pill (monotherapy), you may want to have a discussion with your GP about combo-therapy (taking lower doses of two or more drugs) which is supposed to decrease side effects.
