I don't know if my monitor is faulty, ignore the time and date, that was earlier today 194/124 at 1340 I've just taken another reading at 1830 Bp is 167/108.
I recently had an MCA stroke and diagnosed an enlarged muscle in the heart.

Hi Its-Only-Me and welcome to the forum. You need to get this checked out with your GP, there may be a problem with your monitor so seeing your GP will be the best thing to do as their monitors are calibrated regularly. All the best. xx
Thanks for the sensible reply, I tried the NHS site, it just said "values too high", I was in hospital Tuesday last week, BP then was 161/120, Sunday I got this BPM
Sunday 167/111
Monday am 130/90
Monday pm 144/94
Tuesday, no readings
Wednesday 194/124
Wednesday 167/108.
What did they say to you last Tuesday when you were in hospital and had a 161/120 reading? Did they not make any comment?
No comments at all even though both the nurse and Dr noticed it, I'd only just left the hospital on Friday before, Friday the 25th of September after being admitted on the 6th of September following a stroke, right side MCA that weakened my left side, I couldn't move my left arm or leg, my left hand fingers and thumb went from tingling to numb (it still is), on the Tuesday I got the same sensation on my right hand. Thankfully it has gone now.
You really do need to see your GP and tell him/her all that you have said here and what your BP readings are. Are you on medication? Don't delay seeing your GP. Please let us know how you get on. Good luck. x
Little to no communication between the hospital and my GP, the hospital failed to send me home with my drug chart, forgot to notify the district nurse I was home, told me to order a drug I didn't need as they sent me home with too many, over a week later they still hadn't sent over my release notes to the Dr, which is really annoying as I can't talk with my GP about ongoing treatment if they don't know what is going on.
In the hospital a nurse very nearly gave me the wrong medication, she was convinced these tablets were my venlafaxine, they weren't, they were the blood pressure tablets that had been stopped by the hospital Drs. she tried to prove me wrong by getting the box from the lockbox, it clearly said Bendroflumethiazide, not only a different colour it's also a different size, they stopped the bendros but gave me something else instead.
Sorry, I forgot to include the medications:
Amlodipine 1 x 10 mg morning
Clopidogrel 1 x 75 mg morning
Folic Acid daily
Lansoprazole 1 x 15mg morning
Hydroxocobalamin (IM) 1mg. (3 monthly)
Venlafaxine 2 x 75 mg morning
Venlafaxine 3 x 75 mg evening
Atorvastatin 1x 80mg nightly
Zopiclone 1 x 7.5 mg nightly
Wow, that's a lot. Please see your GP asap and ask advice, tell him/her all that you have said here, including what happened in the hospital. Take care. xx
I will try calling them in the morning, it's too late to speak with my GP, I just know that out of hours and 111 will insist on an ambulance, as you can see this is ongoing I doubt it's worth an emergency hospital visit.
I've submitted my readings this morning
Good for you, hope someone can sort out your problem. x
After submitting the readings a message said a Dr or Nurse will ringback if appropriate.
Let's hope they consider it appropriate. xx
Just got off the phone with a Dr. she has prescribed me some Ramipril (think I've had it previously),
Although my reading was high, she said if the top number is over 200 I need to call the Drs or out-of-hours on 111.
My Morning average was 165/109, pulse 97bpm.
My evening average was 159/107, pulse 94bpm
I assume the Ramipril is in addition to the Amlodipine. You'll have to keep your eye on it then. Did you relate to her what happened in the hospital and how they got one of your medications wrong?
Yes the Ramipril is in addition to my meds, no I didn't tell about the nurses mix up.
The hospital STILL haven't sent my discharge notes over yet
Hello Its-only-me (love the name). Your readings are certainly very high, and maybe the enlarged heart muscle has been caused by your hypertension.
Reading the other posts, I concur with what Springcross is saying. See a professional straight away.
That blood pressure needs sorting and soon.I was diagnosed last year at 244/133 so it is possible.I also have a thickened left ventricle but on meds now and my bp is quite low now.Have a chat with your GP but if you get readings over 180/100 regularly go to A&E .
i got discharged from hospital bp 180/92 so dont worry they said as long as no chest pain etc, mine was always around 161./90 for years now it goes sometimes 130/85 or next day 170/90, im 72years old so 100 plus age is the old way lol, new docs dont like it this high but 160 or 150 is safe at my age and id rather live ok with a bit high bp than be a zombie on a lot of meds, im on 5mg amlodipine at the moment but going to try magnesium supplement heard that helps and hiviscus tea
Here's the thing, I've had chest pains on and off since the mid-1990s, I've been to hospitals, they've done the usual checks and blood tests, kept me in whilst waiting for the results, they always come back clear, a few times the pain was caused by gall-stones, even after my gall bladder was removed I still got the pains, interestingly, post-stroke they may have found the cause, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
