Meds don’t suit me

Hello

I am female aged 62.

Took Bendroflumethiazide for a few years for slightly high bp which settled at between 142/78 and 158/85.

To try to stop the consequential and irritating need to go to the loo frequently the doc changed me onto Ramipril 10mg. Over the next weeks my Bp crept up and has stayed higher.

Heart rate consistently over 88 for years!

Doc then added in a Beta Blocker to see if that got the Bp down. After two weeks my Bp is still too high (typically 160/88). Heart rate is lower at about 68 to 72.

I feel generally whoozy and have had an ocular

Migraine and my lips are a sometimes a bit tingly.

I’m wondering if I should ask to go back to Bendroflumethiazide, drop the ramipril and maybe keep on beta blockers too.

Has anyone else got experience of trying to get the meds right for them?

Thanks

Personally, no. But I’m very aware that other people do have these issues.. Your pressures really are a little high for your age.

In your position I would go a get a consultation with your pharmacist who may be more au fait with the different tules of medication available . He/ she would then write to your doctor, with your permission, with his/her suggestions. This is a normal function of a pharmacist.

Best of luckWith this - do persevere.

Hi FESpex. I was put on Ramipril 2.5 three months ago but I don't feel it did anything for my BP at all, I also took them several years ago and had the same effect. Both times the dose was doubled and not only did it make my BP worse, it made me feel quite ill so I stopped taking them. With regards to going back on the Bendroflumethiazide, I agree with Happyrosie. Don't do anything off your own bat and speak to a pharmacist as she has advised. Good luck. x

Thank you. Not just me then! I’ll call the doc/pharmacy tomorrow.

I've just been prescribed Ramipril. So now I feel a bit nervous.

Why is conventional medicine so toxic?

I hope you find something.

I switched to Ramipril from Amlodipine and find it much better, so I wouldn't worry too much. MY BP is much lower too.

Thank you. That eases my mind slightly.

I spent four years trying to settle and nothing seemed to work without horrendous side effects anything that ended in "ril" which are ACE inhibiters, and "tan" which are similar and are ARB. These are a no no for me. I did take Indapamide for 25 years but as I got older 60-70years I was forever short of potassium which made me feel ill. I eventually was prescribed Nebivolol and take this at 10mg but the recommended dose for high BP is 5mg. This is a different beta blocker than the others and doesn't make you tired when exercising. This keeps my BP and AF under control.
