High BP caused by Claudation

I have beeen prescribed Irbesartan 75mg daily for high blood pressure. I have also had

stents fitted to both Iliac arteries. I have been advised that my high BP is being caused by

claudation restricting blood flow to the lower half of my body. When first on my BP meds

I could hardly walk, dosage was reduced and surgery to fit stents improved my mobility

somewhat but my walking distance is limited. I am also experiencing erectile dysfunction.

BP now is averaging 140/80 but increases to over 190/100 when excercising which scares

me enough to keep strenous activities to a minimum. And it does take a long time for BP

to return to what is my average. Over the festive season I met someone and to overcome

my ED I purchase over the counter medication. Not only did this improve my ED but I found

my ability to walk vastly increased.

Given that my BP is caused by claudation would ED medication be a better option for me?

Is there any reliable research regarding this option?

You really need to discuss this with your doctor or even pharmacist.

ED drugs lower BP so if you’re still experiencing high BP this might be ok, but if it drips it too low it may cause fainting. They also dialate blood vessels obviously so it might have an affect on your arteries and heart.

Thanks for your reply.

Just for the record, the ED treatment was Tadalafil.

Have there ever been trials using this drug for high BP?

I feel like, that in my case anyway, Irbesartan is curing a symptom not the cause.

I must stress I woul not discontinue my current medication without taking qualified medical advice. Pehaps I should get in touch with my vascular surgeon for an opinion.
