Candesartan and kidneys
Candersartan can sometimes increase creatinine levels which has a knock-on effect of causing a decrease in the eGFR. I was told by my renal consultant that a small increase in the creatinine due to Candesartsn was acceptable and that it wasn't’ causing any real impact on the kidney. Is that what has happened to you?
Thanks for the reply. My creatinine is steadily going up and the eGFR down (now only 50, which it should be 75 according to our country's scale). I'm waiting to see a kidney specialist (harder to do with COVID) but I am a bit concerned about the change in numbers since starting candersartan 18mths ago.
Whilst awaiting an appointment with a kidney specialist, why not ask your GP if you could try a different medication to see if it produced an improvement. Losartan Potassium is said to be quite kidney protective. Also you could try reducing your protein and salt intake and increasing your water intake to help meanwhile. Good luck.
Hi i have been on Candesartan for over 15 years with no problems at all.
