Hi are all blood pressure monitors providng the same reading there is a different reading in mine 117-----67 at the hhospital and 142 ---77 with the home monitor the hospital say there one is 100% accurate mine is a microlite monitor any views thanks ed

It's a little bit complicated Jim444. It's true that not all monitors are completely accurate and if you have your own, GP surgeries sometimes ask you to take it in for testing for accuracy.

But it's also true that blood pressure rises and falls many times a day. Usually, if a GP asks us to test at home we'll get a chart with instructions to take it 3 times at 10 minute intervals and the results can be surprisingly different. Often it depends on what we've been doing just before taking it. You should always aim to take yours at home between meals and when you are sitting quietly, not after you've been dashing about.
