It's a little bit complicated Jim444. It's true that not all monitors are completely accurate and if you have your own, GP surgeries sometimes ask you to take it in for testing for accuracy.
But it's also true that blood pressure rises and falls many times a day. Usually, if a GP asks us to test at home we'll get a chart with instructions to take it 3 times at 10 minute intervals and the results can be surprisingly different. Often it depends on what we've been doing just before taking it. You should always aim to take yours at home between meals and when you are sitting quietly, not after you've been dashing about.
