I went cold turkey off my own bat, which is NOT recommended, but have not so far regretted it (see 'Dare I go back to my GP' below). There has been no noticeable difference in my BP readings and after about 5 weeks the cough that has kept me awake each night for years seems finally to have been banished.

I was taking losartan potassium and bisoprolol, also omeprazole and ranitidine because they decided I had silent reflux was causing the cough not the pills.

Now I need more co-codomol for my arthritis and will soon have to go back to the surgery to get repeat supplies - and I'm in for some more tough talking I'm sure for stopping the medication. There will also be another lecture on the so called benefits of statins too as I've refused to take them.

It would be sensible for you to consult your GP really before altering your medication, and not do as I did which I know was stupid.

ACE inhibitors gave me a cough but now I just rely on Calcium channel blockers and diuretics until I get the ablation. No diff in the BP that is of any consequence. Try 1/2 gram beet root powder daily as well as 800 mg Magnesium and 500 mg hawthorn.....

Please talk about this issue with your doctor and see what he/she recommends.

If you are overweight then lose some. Loosing 3 stone enabled me to halve my meds, under doctors supervision of course. Also I left a stressful job.

I personally have normal cholesterol, my GP says everyone over 65 should be on them. They gave my OH headaches and aching bones and his GP (not the same one as mine) stopped them and now he's fine except for the headache.

That's why I didn't take any.
