Cracked, pop, wheezing in throat

I lay down and my throats makes terrible sounds. I have had a productive cough since last Feb. We both had the flu. I took tama flu. But, ever since then I have had more wheezing and coughing. Wake up with a tickle in my throats and have to cough and get the phelm up!

I am the same as you been coughing for around 3 months now and cannot shift it at all. Went to GP and being sent for a chest x-ray though I doubt that will do any good.

Hi Rob59,

It might be worth asking your gp to screen you for adult onset asthma. I had similar symptoms after suffering a flu-like virus. When I lay down and breathed through my mouth I could hear crackling and wheezing noises and constantly felt the need to clear my throat. Eventually, the unrelenting cough led me to see my gp and I was diagnosed with asthma. The inhalers have really helped with my symptoms.

I get wheezing and sometimes cracking sounds only when i lay down and the noise keeps me awake but i just have one puff of my has and when ventoline inhaller and other a few mins it goes

Have you tried a decongestant? That helps brake up the mucus.

It could also be caused by acid reflux or post nasal drip. Your GP might one to try a PPI like omephrazole and some nasal sprays. I had an ENT appointment yesterday for the same symptoms I have also been waking up gasping for air. I have more prescriptions to try and have to go back in 6 weeks

Hi @scardycat40 I have also been suffering from cough, wheeze and breathlessness since last May. Doctors say it’s asthma but I suspect it is not as the inhalers are not helping much. I feel the need to clear my throat a lot of times and feel like something is going down my throat. I also used to have a lot of sore throat. Do you think it is post nasal drip too? There was nothing on my chest xray and blood tests have been clear too.. I’ll appreciate your reply, although I know this post is a year old.

If you see your GP, they'll hopefully send you for an X-ray to have a look at your chest. Don't go on suffering but make sure you describe exactly what's going on. It could just be a persistent lung infection treatable with antibiotics.
