Hi ,
Is it safe to travel by flight (10 hours journey) after having a stent fitted for 2 weeks?
Ask the cardio unit who carried out your procedure. They are qualified to answer.
This is a question for your care team, although insurance maybe an issue.
As it’s only two weeks you should get a “fit to fly” letter, which will answer your question. Insurance, as someone else has mentioned, is also an issue.
I was told 6 weeks by my consultant and that was for a short haul flight. I always wear flight socks too even though it’s over 4 years since my stents.
I would get clarification from your consultant. He/she will write a short letter either confirming you are safe to fly or not so you can get a refund.
I have typed so many
I had to wait 6 weeks after my stent was fitted and thst was only short haul 2 hrs. I always wear flight socks on any flight now, even though it is over 5 yrs. You must also tell insurance about the stent and any medication you are on or it could invalidate it.
You cannot fly until 6 weeks ater having a stent fitted and you must advise your travel insurers. The consultant will be able to provide a letter for your insurers if necessary.
How soon can you fly after having a stent fitted?
It’s not generally recommended to take a long-haul flight soon after having a stent fitted but if you are generally well, and have chatted through your circumstances with your doctor, you may be fit to fly:
Two days after a planned, uncomplicated angioplasty
Three to ten days after an uncomplicated heart attack
Four to six weeks after a complicated or major heart attack
