How long after a stent is fitted can someone fly?
Hello and welcome to the forum! There is no exact answer as much depends on what preceded the stent being fitted. A unfit person who had a heart attack will take longer to get back to a state of health where that can fly than a fit person who had a stent as the result of say a comprehensive company medical.
The availability and cost if travel insurance can sometimes be the determining factor.
One artery was found to be 99% blocked during an angiogram after some slight chest pain two weeks ago. The flight is from Cyprus to the UK to a family members funeral.
Thank you. Sorry i am quite stressed.
The best person to contact us your husband's GP or consultant. They should be able to advise. In addition the airline and/or the insurance company may ask for a letter saying he is fit to fly. Typically, if there are no other issues, he should be fit to fly after two to four weeks.
Hi
As Michael says its all down to the individual and their Dr.
I had circumflex 98% blocked and had stents fitted but 4 weeks later was flying up to Edinburgh on a regualr basis. I know this is not long haul but once Dr. approved I was on my way
Hope your husband recovers soon

You have to talk to your GP/consultant and get their approval to fly. Flying against medical advice could raise major problems. Having got that out of the way, most travel insurance policies ask whether the stent was fitted less or more than 6 weeks ago, so that might be a rule of thumb for you - though of course they might still insure you if the answer is "less" - or turn you down. Either way, be prepared for an eye-watering quote. In my case, it was some months before I felt personally fit enough to travel far, and that is something else to consider. Everyone's cases and circumstances are different.
would not have flown without GP approval
Thank you very much Fredbeare
