Hi there

I had an AVR plus a bypass in 2018 and had liver problems from Statins so haven’t taken them til now as they have kept on at my surgery that I should be taking them so they’ve put me on Nustendi 180mg / 10 mg

Has anyone had any side effects from them ?

I’ve just started with some hip muscle pain but I have had tbat before , just wanted to know if this will settle down or not ?

The side effects from any medication and the frequency of occurrence will be listed on the patient information sheet that is with the medication, and that should include Nustendi. If it is of use to you I take ezetemibe which is a component of Nustendi, along with atorvastatin and don't get any side effects. Finally it seems some side effects do go away after a bedding in period but that will, more than likely, depend on the individual.

I was originally put on ezetemibe, but it made me dizzy, so my doctor put me on avorstatin 10mg and I have no side effects that I know of. They haven't checked my liver yet. May I ask why you are on both?

I can’t take any sort of statin they all affect my liver badly so I have 6 mthly injections of inclisan which helps reduce and prevent cholesterol build up in a different way .

When I went to hospital after my heart attack they couldn’t operate straight away as my liver was in a mess due to the statins so when I came out they put me on this , it’s marvellous, no side effects at all and no liver damage

I'm on my last trial of statins, atozet 10 mg daily as I have alpha1 antitrypsin deficiency which effects the liver. Every statin to date increased my liver enzymes so at clinic last week consultant said if this rises my enzymes GGTS over 170 he will advocate for me to start injections which bypass the liver. Apparently they are very expensive and not everyone qualifies for them. After 10 weeks on another one I got pancreaticitis and hadreduced the amount daily. The cholesterol did lower though.

I can't take statins, even once a week, due to the effect on my liver. I have been put on benzafibrate by the lipid clinic, but haven't had any followup yet, so don't know if it is working. I'm not aware of any side effects.

The consultant mentioned inclisan but this is only for people who have had a cardiac event, so I'm not keen on this.

You say your surgery has been constantly telling you to take statins. Did they tell you your cholesterol reading? Ask them if statins are really necessary. I might sound cynical but when I moved my new GP surgery (triage nurse) took my details then I was sent a prescription for Simvastatin with no information as to what it was or what it was for. When I was told I had high cholesterol and asked for my reading, my levels were well within those advised by my cardiac rehab course. I changed surgeries and my new surgery agreed I didn't need statins. I am still very much alive and well 20 years later! Ask your GP, consider all the risks for and against statins, then you can make an informed decision about your health. I wish you well.

I've had one liver enzyme going up on the lowest dose of Crestor (5mg). I switched to Ezetimibe 5mg and within a month the liver enzyme went to the mid normal range. Ezetimibe lowest dose comes in 10 mg. I cut mine in half after I read a study out of the VA that 5 mg had the same effect as 10mg. I forward the study to my cardiologist and she was fine with me cutting in half. Have been on Ezetimibe for almost 3 months and will know how effective it is mid April. 🤞

I’m on Ezetimibe, for about 3 yrs after struggling with pain on other stations, not heard of Nustendi. I initially had a few aches but nothing now. My cardiologist referred to a lipidologist & I now inject Repatha every 2 weeks. It’s brought my cholesterol down from 7.8 to 3.3,

thanks for the info

I’ve been put on Nustendi which is a combination of 180mg Bempedoic Acid & 10 mg Ezetimibe although one of my liver test results rose way too high but it has come right down now and it’s brought down my Cholesterol from 6.7 to 4.2 so going in the right direction , hopefully the side effects will improve . I’ve been on them since January
