I have been on various statins for20 years after a heart attack, followed by another minor one last year with 3 stents fitted .
For 10 years I have suffered from neuropathic leg and foot tingling and pain, which has got worse since taking 40mg Atorvastatin, for the last 6 months together with Clopidogrel, and is making my life so miserable, I am just existing.
Six years ago I had a series of tests by a neurologist, all negative, and was told it may be due to the statins, but it was Hobsons Choice, either stop statins and risk a further heart attack, or live with the pain.
I am a 79 year old male, and otherwise fit and active, cycling and motorcycling, but losing the incentive to do anything.
Anyone else had this problem and coped with it?

That is interesting reading your post but my husband also has terrible pain and tingling in his foot. He must have been on statins at least 20 years due to family history and his dose was upped to 80mg 2 years ago after a heart attack and quintuple bypass. 2 years before that he had a bulging disc in his back and always thought that was the cause of the tingling and pain. Now you’ve got me wondering. Sorry this doesn’t help you in any way.
My husband was put on Statins due to slightly high cholesterol and has type 1 diabetes,he had to quickly come off them as his legs and body aches so much he couldn't do his work as a landscape gardener. He now takes pharmepa fish oils and cholesterol has come down now.My mum was also.phr on Statins and had terrible muscle and joint pain.I think their maybe a new station that doesn't cause such pain.
Benecol works too . I have one of their little sugar free yoghurt drinks every morning . Doesn’t do anything for inflammation which statins do of course but no negative side effects
A good remedy for peripheral neuropathy is Apple cider vinegar 2-3 tablespoons in a small amount of warm water 3x daily take an hour before foodmAlso Vit B complex including b12 Solgar us a good brand .
You're welcome also Vit Bs important as help healthy nervous system function particularly b1 b6 and b12.Good to get a good multiple B complex be with good amounts of these in them,I live Solgar helped my burning feet issue.
Never had Clopidrel but had 7 miserable years of terrible cramps and foot pain that got worse as the doses of Atorvastatin went up! Eventually I had enough and told my GP that I could not stand it anymore and I wanted to reduce them. Doctor said well you can stop them if you want. I did. Had 1 cramp since and no peripheral pain at all. Bliss. Most GP'S recommend you try a fortnight without and see what happens. The Pharmas pay the doctors to push statins! Ask for another drug, they do exist but cost more.
Well I have peripheral neuropathy but it started years before going on statins. For nerve pain they only ever suggest amitriptylene and gabapentin which did absolutely nothing for me so I take nothing for it and just put up with it.
That interesting. I am being treated with meds for CDH with totally occluded RCA . I taking various meds which have taken some getting used to . Amongst them is 40mg atorvastatin . I am suffering tremor shaking down my arm and hand not painful but scary and stops me sleeping . Cardiologist says see neurologist gp says anxiety . I say I think its statins as too much coincidence not to be . I feel for you because I understand . If anyone on here has confirmation or solution I hope it can help you .
I take supplements for neuropathy. These supplements I took to improve blood circulation helped me. They can be found on rocketmannaturals.com. Before taking them, of course, I consulted with a doctor. I think this is the most important part. Neuropathy was caused by diabetes mellitus. One causes the other, and then it becomes complicated to fight it. So as soon as you notice the first signs of neuropathy, you need to take action. Other neuropathy can develop into peripheral, and this is even worse and more serious. So take care of yourself and be attentive to your health.
