I had AVR with an Inspiris Resilia almost two years ago aged 68 and feel really well. But I became worried about my slowly increasing weight and in January decided to start taking Wegovy when I crossed the qualifying threshold of BMI 27 + cardiac history.
This week, after 3 months, I've stopped taking it because during that time my resting heart rate, which I had worked so hard to decrease after surgery, rose by 10 beats per minute. I lost a little weight but hated this rising HR. I spoke to a cardiac nurse about it and she explained that semaglutide also affects the central nervous system which can increase HR. I avoid pseudoephedrine in cold remedies for the same reason - perhaps I'm just particularly sensitive to this side effect.
I've looked but haven't seen any discussion of this reaction to Wegovy so I'm recording it by writing about it here and would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced it. I now plan to control my weight by non-medical means.
