I have just had a MIBI scan and was required to stop Bisoprolol 48hrs before the scan.
I take 1.25mg per day to treat occasional tachycardia attacks which started a few months after a heart attack. That was 6 years ago, I'm 71 now, still very fit, I jog and cycle, gym regularly, play 18 holes of golf no problem.
Unfortunately, taking Bisoprolol dropped my already low pulse to about 45 resting (I also find it impossible to get my HR above 130 even when working out hard at the gym) and my BP is about 115/65.
Since stopping the Bisoprolol a few days ago my HR has gone up to 50 and BP up to 122/66, and no tachys yet....so I'm tempted to try carrying on without it.
It will be weeks before I see a cardiologist to go through the MIBI results, and getting an appointment with my GP also takes weeks....so I'm tempted to make an executive decision pending my next cardio appointment.
So far I feel fine, but my HR monitor at the gym shows my HR going quickly up to 135, so I backed off my normal workout to stop it going any higher, chickened out I guess after all those years at 125.
Has anybody gone through a similar exercise, preferably under doctors supervision and give me some advice?

Hi, most Dr's do triage so I would ask your Dr to phone you or maybe speak to a nurse at your surgery. Alternatively, you could speak to one of the BHF nurses here. Take care
Oh dear....several hours after taking my executive decision I went into AFIB!
Scabbled around for a Bisoprolol and after about 4-5 hours I'm back in sinus rhythm.
So disappointed as it means I'm probably dependent upon these damn meds for the forseeable future....makes me feel very vulnerable...I had really hoped after all these years of sinus rhythm my ticker would have got back into the groove.
I guess things could be worse, I could have persistant untreatable AFIB...oh well...back to the pills.
I am also 70 years old I came off Bisoprazole 2 months after having stent fitted. I found my HR was down to low 40's and felt tired and lacking energy. After discussing with my Dr she agreed for me to stop, I walk for 4 miles each morning and am relatively fit, resting HR is between 50/60 and BP 130/65. My HR goes up to 120 when pushing it on the treadmill. It is now six months since having stent fitted and my meds are down to Clopidogrel 75mg (for another six month) Aspirin 75mg, Atorvastatin 20mg,Amlodopine 5mg and Lansoprazole. So after getting my head around the initial shock, I am feeling well and taking everything in my stride.
