Magnesium why on bisoplorol

I know many people who do but my understanding is that needs to be taken with care as Magnesium supplements can enhance the effect of the Bisoprolol.
I was on 20mg propranolol and now down to 2.5mg a day. I just got magnesium taurate supplement. Haven't started taking it and would love to know if anyone has tried this supplement while on a betablocker.
yes I take magnesium and my cardiologist is okay with that.
separate them by at least two hours as Magnesium can reduce the effects of bisoprolol.
I've been using a magnesium supplement while on 1.25mg bisoprolol with no noticeable issues. Doesn't mean it's safe though, I never thought to look into it!
Edit: after some web searching I'm not concerned.
1.25mg biso and ramipril, I haven’t taken any magnesium. Just vit D in winter months .
There is an interaction checker on drugs dot com
Hello...I take a Magnesium supplement and I'm on 10mg of Nebivolol...Pharmacist and Cardiac Team are ware.
I suggest you go and have a chat with your dispensing pharmacist who is qualified to provide you with an answer.
I was taking magnesium but not for my heart failure more for my pain in the calves due to PAD.I am also on bisoprolol .Ive just stopped it only because it didn’t seem to be doing anything and I’m on quite a few herbal tablets like multi vitamins, creatine for the gym etc it’s costing a fortune
Yes you can. I do. My blood tests showed that my magnesium was low so my GP prescribed one of the magnesium compounds, but it upset my stomach. I am now on straight two magnesium citrate 119mg/day. I have to buy these because for some reason the GP cannot prescribe straight magnesium. They also have Vit B6 in them, but she says thus is it a problem. I think magnesium is one of those mineral that should only be taken on GP advice.
Hi. Listen to dr sanjay gupta on youtube. He gives a lot of info about magnesium.
I agree with those who suggest a chat with your pharmacist - some types of magnesium supplement have unpleasant (gut related) side effects as well as the possibility of interactions
Oh hi I take magnesium supplements but I don't take bisoprol though. I'm on verapamil 120mg at night and so far everything been ok. Hope your ok, what magnesium supplement you on? I'm just taking sainsburys own make of it, it's actually really good x
When my GP was insistent that I take Lansoprazole (antacid) to counter the effects of Clopidogrel, I noted that this could lead to depleted magnesium, but read that there was magnesium in the hard water that I drink, so thought that this might compensate. I gather that magnesium also has slight blood-thinning properties, which I definitely don't need.
My surgeon was also insistent: that I did not need to take Lansoprazole. At my recent TAVI review, the cardiologist endorsed what I was doing - taking it only when I had stomach discomfort.
In the past 18 months I've had many blood tests (my spreadsheet of results for 2024 runs to at least 50 different readings) but never for magnesium.
