Today is the 15th anniversary of my Heart Attack, I was working in ASDA bakery at the time and was blue lighted at 6.30 am to Southampton General Hospital where I had 2 stents fitted, luckily they have a 24hr catheter suite. Two days later home, 12 weeks recouperation, cardiac rehab and returned to full time work as a Baker. I was given the option of lighter duties but decided to return to full time work, I worked for another 6+ years in the same job and retired on my 65th birthday 8 years ago
I feel reasonably good on the usual cocktail of drugs and am enjoying retirement, unfortunately owing to breathing in flour dust all my life (Father was a baker too) I now also have COPD not too bad at present but not really interfering with my retirement.
Basically what I am saying to those who have had HA recently or not too recently, there is life after the event maybe slightly changed but not totally changed, its up to you!

Thank you Geoff ! Totally inspiring I’ve only just had my heart attack and feeling daunted ! I am a yoga teacher ! So shocked at what has happened you made me feel better : )
Echo your positive attitude Geoff. My Husband had a STEMI 3 years ago today but quick thinking and a superb paramedic team got him to New Cross for a stent and a week stay. Usual meds, 4 stone lighter and enjoying life!
Many congratulations on your excellent cardiac recovery, Geoff, and thank you for sharing your story with us, it gives hope to many. Here's to many more happy years to come.
Fantastic positive post and one which I’m sure so many will gain from (me included) - No guarantees in life and no guarantee with or without heart problems - Life for living as best we all can - try not to waste what we have withe the fear of what might happen ☘️☘️
Agree with everyone’s comment on the positivity of your post brother and I’m now aware that COPD - which I’ve always associated with smoking or coal dust - can affect other professions.
Well said and congratulations on your anniversary. I'm now 6 years past my HA and life hasn't changed at all. Not everyone gets away with little damage but often just small changes need to be made. A HA can be a good advance warning to improve things for the lucky ones. After losing my mum to heart problems at only 69 I'm amazed and grateful I'm still here at a month away from 77.
hi Geoff - this is exactly the sort of post I wanted to read. I am 12 months post HA and doing really well, but thoughts of mortality do crop up in my mind.
Thank you for brightening up my day and I am so pleased you are doing well so many years later.
You will always have those thoughts in the back of your mind, the best thing is always to look forward not back, I am now 73 so I take it reasonably easy, dog walk twice a day, get under her feet, a little gentle shopping and a little gentle gardening weather permitting.
