On my 1 year anniversary i went out and completed a 60km cycle ride, i have now cycled over 2,000kms since April.

My journey hasnt been easy.

Post op first week home i developed large haemotomas in the graft leg which bled out on week 4 had to visit hospital.

Week 6 had a chest infection which caused a boil on my scar wound this was lanced by the hospital.

I walked every day and by the end of week 12 my pace and distance was at preop values.

3 months went back to work and month 4 was back on tbe Peloton.

Month 9 was back out on my bike doing on average 40kms

Month 12 cycled over 2,000kms.

Last week we bought our retirement home in Cyprus, being 57yrs young got a couple of years before retirement.

Its been a hard year and definetly dont want to go tbrough open heart surgery.

Hello :-)

Happy Anniversary :-)

Sounds like as we all have our own experiences with surgery that you had some ups and downs but still you have done so well and even though you feel you would never have surgery again it has given a life where you can look to the future as far as buying a retirement home in Cyprus which does sound fantastic and something to really be look forward to :-)

It may have been a hard year but one that has got better and I wish you now you have got through this lots of good years to come :-) x

Well done, onwards and upwards 😊. I do a fair amount of cycling myself and have managed to get up to 100 miles a couple of times now @just over two years past my quad bypass.

I also did a 5 day bike packing tour last October averaging 55 miles a day, so plenty of opportunities there.

Good luck on the future improvements

Cycling helped me self diagnose my heart condition which led me to self referring myself to the Spire under a Cardiolist. I am now off all medications apart from the low dose asprin my surgeon insists i take.
