Just wanted to say to anyone waiting for the bypass op, My husband had his 26 years ago, almost everything went wrong that could go wrong. But he's still enjoying life. 26 years ago was the most traumatic time in our lives. Sending you all positive thoughts for your op

My mum had her op 2 days ago, am finding it very traumatic, just trying to take it all one day at a time...

I can still vividly remember the first few months after my husbands op. So many things went wrong. In hospital he never got past the high dependency ward ! He was in a coma for about 4 days, and just as the hospital was booking in for a brain scan he came round !! All you can do at this stage is sit tight and trust that your mum has the strength to recover from her op. Sending you and mum positive thoughts.

Thank you. She looks a lot better today all considering and fortunately doesn't remember much of the last 48h.

Sometimes it harder for us on the sidelines .. feeling helpless ... the medical team know what they are doing and your mum is going to do the hard job of recovering .. and we just have to stand by and be supportive

A colleague's father had CBG in his fifties. He is still reasonably healthy and with it in his nineties!

Thanks for your lovely positive post.

I had my bypass in June and often wonder if I am a ticking bomb and if the bypass has reduced my life expectancy.

Obviously life style can change things but to know that a bypass can help you enjoy life not shorten it is lovely to read.

Thank you.

Well my hubby is living proof that the bypass op will not shorten your life .. When he had his op he was not able to walk the length of the hallway without stopping .. now 26 years later he will often reach his 10,000 step target. It was like living with a time bomb, but when you learn to trust your life again its really wonderful. I won't say we have not had a few set backs, but all easily overcome with a few new meds. He was med free apart from aspirin for the first 15 years after the op.

Its still early days for you Heather1957, sending you positive thoughts for the long and happy life that you now have ahead of you x
