how do you people get travel insurance??? It seems so unfair I’ve had quadruple bypass but but no problems since,I have been on BP tablets for years without a problem but so as you mention conditions it’s sky high and ridiculously expensive
travel insurance : how do you people... - British Heart Fou...
travel insurance

As soon as you say you have seen a consultant in the last 12months or you have been in hospital for a condition in the last 12 months that's when the travel insurance premium gose up...I have an Aortic Root and ascending aneurysm, high cholesterol, acid reflux, nasal polyps, rotator cuff shoulder tear, Anxiety, high blood pressure. My insurance for Benidorm for 7 nights was £121. The price wasn't for all the health issues I have, it was I had to goto A&E 12 times in 12 months.
the insurers go by statistics - the cost to them of claims.
If they didn’t charge the right price they would rapidly go out of business and then nobody would be able to get travel insurance.
For further guidance see the websites of Moneysavingexpert and MoneyHelper UK.
Get several quotes and compare them.
Try this company. I had a cabg4 too and found this company to be way less expensive than most and I went for a year worldwide policy. Sometimes your bank may offer a very good rate too, but ensure it covers all your medical conditions.
Hello. Try a website called Paying too Much. I have had 2 HA and 5 stents and for 1 x trip it was about £140
I had triple CABG two years ago and pay £260 for an annual policy with staysure.
I tried a quote less than a year after my surgery, annual policy was over £5000 (five thousand). I’ve had 2xPCI, AVR and a single CABG. I then tried my home insurer (Aviva) and they were about £800.
Single trip wasn’t that much cheaper in either case.
I tried a few and found co op insurance to be the most suitable, probably not the cheapest but they were willing to insure me when others weren't.
Eyup might be worth checking out a bank account that gives you travel insurance then seeing how much more you have to pay. When I was travelling the other year it only cost me another £125 for the whole year. I've got a mechanical heart Valve and had a heart attack a couple of years ago.
Unfortunately, it's a price we have to pay if we want to travel. The insurers will adjust their premiums based on risk that the individual may or may or may not need medical attention when abroad, especially higher for trips to the US.
I've recently been quoted just over £500 for 11 night European stay and that's me with one emergency visit to hospital with AF within 12 months, undergoing tests and recently diagnosed HF (wrongly in my opinion) but I have to declare it anyway.
I have travel insurance as part of my packaged bank account. I spoke to them after my HA. 5 yrs ago. They agreed to add cover for this at a premium. It's about £230 a year extra
I had a quadruple HB 18 months ago, I got a joint policy for me (50yr) and my mum who is 78 (single trip cover) with Staysure for a 3 week holiday to Australia next month for 370 (it was roughly 200 for me and 170 for mum). I was expecting it to be three times that so pleasantly surprised. The cover is really good too (with Zurch insurance) and they did do a cheaper one but I upgraded the possesions cover, it also covers cancelation so goes up depending on how much the holiday cost.
I use nationwide flex plus account it costs £18 a month but get travel / AA breakdown and mobile phone insurance all part of the account. You may have to pay a premium for your medical condition but still works out a lot cheaper than anywhere else
Plus if you have a savings account as well the last two years nationwide have give £ 100 back to members
Worth a look hope this helps
short answer. Shop around
I got mine reduced to 1/3rd of the biggest quote. And that was via Admiral, a reputable enough company
It also depends on how old you are, ( increases rapidly at 75yrs) where you are going ( beware North America), and how ( cruises more expensive) but for 2 people with health problems, one with well controlled diabetes and one with angina, no hospital stays for either, still paying £1K for Mediteranean cruise. And that's after shopping around til I was bored silly!!
Try Insure and Go. They screen you for health with a few questions. I have found the increase for AF not to be too outrageous.
I had a quadruple bypass 4 yrs ago, my wife (no health issues) & I have a joint annual policy from Staysure for £410
Well we are the new untouchables. Insurance companies just won't do us. Some people say try this and that, it's not feasible, I have just travelled on my own steam. If your going to Europe your medical card comes in handy.
Hello, Rehana01. I note that in your reply to Wardywill, you mention that a European Medical Card (Uk Global Health Insurance Card) being handy. However, if that is all that you would rely on, wereyouto fall ill, or have injuries due to an accident, that Card would no@t get you home.
Whereas you might get recommendations from folks on here that have suited them, we are all different (destination, age, health, how long for, extent of cover etc) and what might be a good deal from someone else might not be the same for you. So do your own research by finding a website that covers travel insurance with pre existing medical conditions, fill in the details fully and honestly, choose some quotes that look promising and take it from there. If you have an undiagnosed condition awaiting investigation you might find some insurers will decline to cover or the premium is very high. Or talk to a local insurance broker who is incentivised to get you a deal.

Hello, i'd recommend trying the Post Office for travel insurance (on line). The medical questions asked are easy to answer and you get a price straight away, no in-depth protracted telephone conversations! (At least for me). The price was less than half of another competitor too. Good luck!
Unfortunately that's the way it is....and wait until you are over 75. Many companies will not even insure you with no problems.
my husband had a quintuple bypass and I have a lung condition and we got quite a good price (compared to some) from Tesco. That was last year but I know insurance for everything has gone up this year.
I'm with puffin insurance I'm off to Lanzarote Thursday They first quoted me 45£ then I rang them back to say I wanted it for a year I then paid another£96 I had a cabg x5 in 2018 and a double hernia operation beginning of January I'm happy x
