I have had a hiatus hernia since 2011 and struggled for full year losing a lot of weight constant nausea and retching uncontrollable, ppi s and Zantac didn’t work, numerous hospital admittance dropped 8 stone to 9 stone over year, fast forward 1 year after persistent with surgeons and appointments I get the laparoscopic Nissan fundplication , it was like someone turned tap on and off everything just stopped, back to Normal self eating and working etc, recovery was long, 6 weeks they say, more like 6 months, with pain, nausea etc what I expected for things to settle down after this surgery, it’s being 13 years since op and I’m back to same situation endoscopy done , 4 cm sliding hiatus hernia , retchijg every morning and pain immensely for hour or so, currently taking medium and domperidone and as like before being told hiatus hernia don’t cause these problems, my advice is push to get. Surgery done as this can be life changing with pain and ppi s that work for some and not for others , I’m pushing to get surgery again which is tough in uo as surgeons just fob u off !!!

hiatus hernia problem

very interesting post thank you ! Iam in the process of having investigations done regarding my hiatus hernia. I’ve had a barium swallow test done last week and now waiting for the results and hopefully a consultation about having an operation on it . I’ve also had a endoscopy done which showed a hiatus hernia but not the size! Iam quite sure that the hernia is causing me to have palpitations as all my heart tests showed nest ok but large hiatus hernia. I do feel they are connected.
Hiatus hernia does aggravate afib for me, I have a 3 cm sliding hiatus hernia according to the endoscopy done in 2021.Despite my aversion to operations this is one I would consider but the last time I spoke to the GP he emphatically denied that there was any operation to fix it. I knew he was wrong, but how do you get a doctor to refer you for consideration for an operation that he insists does not exist?
