Waistline - where is it

When I attended cardiac rehab after one stent inserted the nurse measured my waist and told me I needed to loose weight as it was 35 inches and they like females to be 32 inches or less.

I was measured over my belly button which I had never regarded as my waist which I consider it to be above my hip bone not below the hip bone. I have lost 10lbs in recent months but none from where I was measured.

On viewing a BHF video on measuring your waist it states that your waistline is half way between bottom of ribs and top of hips. This means my waist is now 30, down from 32 when I did my rehab.

Where has everyone else been measured by the rehab nurses and who do I believe, rehab nurse or BHF. My feeling is BHF as how can your waist include your hip bone.

I agree with you and BHF. Someone at Biobank once measured my waist lower down - and basically it was high hip - on my hip bones.

I am quite large of hip but still have a defined waist - so it was annoying to get this big waist measurement. Tummy button just doesn’t work, it depends on your shape, also on whether you have had anything like a C-section.

I would dismiss it as a poor measure and take your own one as correct.

I was told Bend to the side and where your side creases is your waist line.🤗

Yes, I'd go along with that! Makes sense to me...

Hi, I was given a special tape measure years ago one side was for men and the other for women to measure their waistline and changed colour to tell you where your measurement should be under. I was told it should be measured from around your belly button. Mine is 31” now but don’t forget it gets bigger at the end of the day after eating so do it first thing in the morning. X

The advice I was given was to measure two fingers above belly button.

Also that fat stored there particularly relates to heart disease.

Watching a sewing programme - the trick to find your true waist is to tie some string loosely around your middle, move around as you would normally for about half an hour & the string will fall naturally where your waist is & that’s where you measure. Sounds good to me 🙂

frankly sometimes they dont know what they are on about.

Try this nhs.uk/health-assessment-to...

The older you get you get shorter and your waist gets bigger. Man and woman both.

Sounds like the nurse put the tape in the wrong place and was too lazy to move it, or she needs to go back to nursing school. You can't trust your belly button!😆😆😆

Ageing , bloating , sagging , body changes especially if you've lost a lot of weight , and even surgery below the waist can cause it to drop.

But nobody should be having a waist measurement done below or on the hip bone , the clues in the title, that's a hip measurement.

To find your true waist use the advice you already got in another reply. Hold the tape loosely at your middle . Bend to the side, move the tape to where your body bends inward and measure from there.

And measure your body for a more accurate indication in the middle of the afternoon, at least two hours after a meal.

You should also have foot measurements mid afternoon as well , although you can eat while your doing that 😆😆😆.

Thank you for all your comments and links. As the cardiac rehab nurse was measuring over my hip bones there is no way the measurements were going to be 32 inches less.

My BMI is 21 and my real waist line measurement is just under half my height but if I get any shorter it won't be.

Any tips on how to regain the height I have lost in recent years 😃
