Hi,
I had a heart attack and stents fitted eight months ago. I've started getting pains in the muscles of both arms. Could it be the statins? I am on 80mg Atorvastatin each day. Anyone else had anything similar?

Although side effects from taking statins affects less than 10% of users the most common side effect from taking statins appears to be muscle aches and pains, and from what members say on here that seems to be more lower limbs, but not exclusively. However if you believe you are experiencing side effects from the Atorvastatin you are taking them you should discuss this with your GP who could offer you another statin to try, of which there are several, which may not give you any side effects. Rosuvastatin seems to be a popular alternative to Atorvastatin, and that apparently works for some on here. But if you prove to be statin intolerant there are other forms of medication to keep your cholesterol under control.
I'm not, but my husband ached all over from atorvastatin, spoke to the doctor and he changed the brand, which has worked for him.
Hiya. I’m like you and I’m on 80mg Atorvastatin a day and I had arm and leg pains once I started the meds. It affected my knees and elbow joints the most and I had terrible issues with locked arm joints at night. I lived in the US at the time and it was easier and cheaper to keep away from the Drs surgery so just roughed it out. After about 6 months my body just learnt to cope with the meds and the aches subsided. I’ve been taking AtorV for over 4 years now and I don’t get an issues anymore and my cholesterol with meds and diet is down to 2.7 so for me it all worked out pretty well but was a slog to get there. Like the other peeps have said though, if it’s giving you real issues than get back to the Drs and see if something else will be less impacting for you. Hope you get the right message and get that cholesterol nice and low. Hang in there.
Hi, I'm also on the same dose and have been for the last six years. I've had no noticeable problems taking them. I'm also on Amlodipine, aspirin and ramipril.
I'm on 80mg a day as well, luckily I haven't had the muscle aches and pains. But I understand that quite a few people do, talk with the doctor is the best thing
