Muscle pain after stopping Ticagrelor

It’s a year since my HA and stents and my blood thinners ceased about ten days ago, since which time I’ve been suffering muscle pains. When I wake up I have a stiff and sore neck and pain in my left thigh.

I’ve been very good all year about taking moderate exercise for 60 to 90 minutes every day. When I first started I had muscle pains but pushed through it and everything has been fine until stopping the blood thinners. I also have mild chest pain.

Has anyone experienced this, and do I just push through it again?

Thanks.

I personally decided to stay on the drug at a lower dose for another 3 years. The doctor who inserted my stent agreed. The reasons which you mentioned were among my thoughts.

I’ve heard nothing from my Cardiologist and my GP simply follows his instructions. Other than Covid the NHS isn’t working very well at the mo.

I would never personally trust a GP that much, not without first consulting my doctor at least.

I have to be sure they have the most up to date information and then also trust them enough with it. That’s why I always spoke directly to them.

Some confusion over terminology I think. GP = doctor. Cardiologist = heart consultant/specialist.

The doctor I’ve been talking to actually worked on my heart, as opposed to somebody sitting in a room talking to me in a practice, whose face I haven’t ever seen. That’s what I’m getting at here. I understand what you’re saying though.

Yes. GP (General Practitioner) is your Doctor. The doctor who specialises in your heart is a Cardiologist. Specialist doctors are generically known as Consultants as opposed to doctors in general practice. Hope that helps.

I wouldn’t worry too much about your muscle pains, but obviously I’m not a doctor etc. I’ve had them even whilst being on the drug and it’s just something I dealt with. Same with my chest.

I was taken off ticagtelor because of all the side effects, at 10 months after HA and two stents. Ended up in the Emergency because of muscle pain, chest pain, rapid heart and a few more. All i can say is there are definetly side effects from coming off the heart meds like ticagrelor which i did not expect. Makes sense when you think about it if something like side effects from ticagrelor and statins comes in like a lion with all the harsh problems in trying to tolerate it of course it will not go out like a lamb. Just my take and it took just over 2 weeks of withdraw from tica and 3 wks from nasty statins.

Thanks. I’m still feeling a bit lethargic and have some muscle pain, but it does seem to be getting better.

I had no problems with coming off ticagrelor but didn`t take statins after having two adverse reactions, didn`t want to end up in a wheel chair, nasty meds with little benefit, see statin wars BMJ.

I have been doing so much research on statins because of my horrible side effects and then the cruel and no understanding just irresponsible pressure from the cardiologists. It absolutely sickens me how these big pharma want to put kids on statins in the US now. Bad enough what the truth is in what some people especially women are forced to live with because of them but children?
