Hi all I hope everyone is having the best day that you can.
Christmas Day is a poignant one for me as it was Xmas day 2 years ago, while on a bike ride, that I nearly lost my life to a bad heart attack. Various doctors and cardiologists said I was very lucky to pull through and I am grateful for every day but especially Xmas day.
To all of you who may have had recent issues keep strong, follow good advice and you’ll get there. I had a good few tough months and that first year is one of recovery. But my life is pretty much back to normal, apart from loads of meds and a lack of alcohol. I did a Xmas park run this morning which was great fun.
Happy Christmas x

Back in the late seventies a friend's mother had a heart attack on Boxing Day. Whilst being treated she was also diagnosed as Type II diabetic. Whilst she was nor overweight and generally ate sensibly she always went OTT at Christmas. I used to visit regularly on Boxing Day and despite being a Type I diabetic she was always offering me chocolates, mince pies, whiskey, etc. As I was usually on a motorcycle on those days (Tritons and alcohol do not mix) I generally resisted. At the time of the heart attack her alcohol level and BG were sky high. This was before stents and bypasses were common and she was treated with heart drugs and (I believe) Metformin. Basically she followed the rules for both conditions apart from the occasional cheese binge and NT cream tea. She outlived her husband by decades and died at 95 earlier this year. She also lived independently even refusing Dossette boxes until six months before her death. So with a modicum of luck you may gave another 40 - 50 years. She and my uncle (living independently at 103) are my role models.
Yeah I’m now pretty strict with the diet, although it wasn’t that bad anyway, but I did have a day off yesterday I must admit. Will have a quiet food day today to balance it out.
I’m hoping to stick around for as long as I can! Not sure on 40/50 years though haha
