Hi all, new member here would really appreciate your thoughts. Was told I had AFib awaiting leg surgery prior to being put under anaesthetic in July this year.
Doctor immediately placed me on 5mg of Bisoprolol and Edoxaban 60 mg. Referred to cardiologist in July still on waiting list.
Anyway 2 weeks was leaving the swimming pool with my son and had blurred vision which lasted for 5 mins approx. No dizziness etc just blurred vision which resolved itself.
Informed GP of this and referred to TIA stroke team whom I met on friday past.
Awaiting mri results, ecg was fine.
My thinking is this is purely down to the medication as recently I've had difficulty sleeping, had a slight fuzzy feeling in my head and frequent urination at night.
Anyone have similar experiences to this? Going for blood and vascular tests tomorrow. A bit concerned tbh.
Thanks.

I had a retinal TIA a couple of weeks post open heart surgery. Similar duration to yours, but my symptom was a blank area of vision in one eye (uniform grey rather than blurry).
ECG, echo, CT scan, CT angiogram, MRI and retinal scan over the next 6 days in hospital. Sent me home with a prescription for aspirin. 🤦♂️
Funny that's what I was given by my GP at first. Having visited the TIA DR on Friday past he decided to reduce my 5mg of bisoprolol to 2.5 mg as I had a slightly low heart rate.
I'm of the belief it's the medication but surely the mri will indicate more precisely.
In my case at least, the CT scans and MRI were just to rule out any ischaemic events in the brain. When they didn't find any they gave a differential diagnosis of retinal TIA (amaurosis fugax).
Because I was only a few weeks post open heart surgery, they admitted me to the stroke ward and kept me there until all the tests were run. I was not happy to be back in hospital, but they said the inpatient wait would be days while if I went home I'd be looking at months.
The MRI took longest because the first time they didn't have the info they needed on my mechanical aortic valve, so they told me to get dressed again and sent me back to my room.
The vascular neck test is nice and quick. They didn't give me that in the stroke ward because one had been done the night before my surgery. (Something about having to run the cardio-pulmonary bypass machine at a slightly higher pressure if you had clogged carotid arteries.)
That's one of the few times I've gotten the results directly from the ultrasound technician, who told me they were all clear.
I had a mechanical aortic valve put in on 9th March 2015 (you never forget the date!) and was put on Warfarin and Bisoprolol 1.25 mg. A week after coming home I had my first episode of blurry double vision which lasted for about 5 minutes and then resolved itself. If I closed one eye I could see normally. I mentioned it to my cardiac team who didn’t seem to think it was a problem. It kept recurring occasionally over the years, usually when I was overly tired. In 2022 - 2023 I developed Atrial Fibrillation with a low heart rate (bradycardia) and was taken off Bisoprolol and put on a low dose of Isosorbide Mononitrate, a vasodilator. I haven’t had any double vision since. I’m now questioning whether this was due to starting the Isosorbide or stopping the Bisoprolol.
Have you had an echo? I would ask gp to refer you for one before seeing cardiologist, I had af last july, got echo and got a kardia which then my heart went back into sinus, on bisoprolol and edoxaban, saw cardiologist and have large hole in my heart( didn't know) now off bisoprolol and heart has recovered to normal ish size
Yes I had an echo in October and it came back fine. Going to the hospital this morning for vascular and blood tests. It's the blurred vision that's worrying me somewhat. Hopefully get sorted.👍
Sorry to hear you have had this worry. Dronedarone and amioderone can cause cataracts and ‘whorls’ and very rarely can affect the optic nerve. I have these. It took weeks to improve when drug stopped. Your medication doesn’t have these potential side-effects. It was good you got m Ed oval help so quickly.
I don't suffer from AF but since having valve replacement and bypass which required me to go on Bisoporsol I have noticed my eyesight has changed. Before I used to use off the shelf readers for close up work and everything else was fine I now find that close up is fine but texts on the TV is blurred. I shall be having a med review soon so I will ask about it then and then go for an eye test. Eyes tested less than 12 months ago and all was good.My other thought is since my op I have used my phone a lot more so is it that that has changed my eyesight.
Ive noticed the same whilst watching television. Squinting and having to move closer. I was told not too drive 2 weeks ago for a month. As we speak once I take the biso I sometimes feel a bit hazy.
