Not sure what to make of it. Anyone else seen articles popping up on Google trends?

Ie proton pump inhibitors ( lansoprazole, omeprazole) being linked to scurvy or dementia.

Considering a lot of us here take one form due to aspirin doses it made me concerned.

Scaremongering or some truth to it?

The articles that appeared in the past few days appear to relate to a single case, but there was this review : touchneurology.com/alzheime...

"Our review included 17 studies in total: two were cross-sectional studies, one was a case-control study, 12 were cohort studies and two were RCTs. PPI use was associated with an increased risk of dementia in six studies. No association between PPI use and the risk of dementia was shown in eight studies and two studies showed a decreased risk of dementia with PPI use. There was no association between PPI use and AD [Alzheimer's Disease] in one study, but the same study showed that PPI use is associated with an increased risk of non-AD dementia."

Typical of medical research!

I have been taking a PPI for reflux disease for over 15 years and I have not got dementia or scurvy or malnutrition because I can't absorb any nutrients or osteoporosis which are other apparent side effects which crop up and send folks into panic mode. There are risks and side effects from taking any medication which have to be balanced against the good it does for you, and in my case I apparently do not get any known side effects from taking a PPI and importantly for me it keeps my reflux in check.
