I’ve self isolated myself from the news today. And do you know what I feel a little better about stuff.

If you do don't start Googling! 😁

in reply to MichaelJH

Well I have googled a bit, but just a few of my favourite things like;

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens

Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Brown paper packages tied up with strings.

And also;

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels. Door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles. Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings.

Oh and ordered a screwfix direct catalogue

A few of my favourite things are in there as well 😂

Including the ironmonger catalogue, for me at least:) When my husband and I were first 'courting' we used to go to DIY centres for a wander - warm, dry, and ace at working out if we shared the same tastes in things like kitchens and baths, lol (laughing but it really did help us discover we were indeed a good match).

As the weather is really good at the moment, yesterday I went for a walk so hardly seen any TV, and today I've spent the day in the garden sorting out the lawns, borders, cleaning windows, sweeping the drive - only just come back inside at 17.30, again haven't seen the TV all day. Haven't missed it and lovely to get outside after the winter, and feel a lot better for it.

in reply to SpiritoftheFloyd

Yes I have a day off tomorrow, so I’m planning a full on attack on the back garden. Start planting some bulbs and sort out my herb garden. I’m also planning to grow some artichokes this year as well.

Enjoy tomorrow, weather looks good for gardening

I grew my globe artichokes from seed couple of years ago.

They are such beautiful and elegant plants which produce a globe which take dedication, persistence and hopefulness to find the inner choke buried deep in the heart of the artichoke.

They are very prickly too!

Omg 🤣stop it 😂😃

It is possible to grow a differnt clematis to have at least one in flower throughout the year.

I love growing scented climbers too their scent is lovely to smell just sitting out on a summer evening in my garden.

I think I might be getting cabin fever already 😳

in reply to Milkfairy

Yes were coming into spring now. Thank goodness. Soon be bbq’ ing again.

Jerusalems or globes? I've been thinking about starting an artichoke bed (globe), and an asparagus bed - oh hey, do you think the lockdown will be ended before the asparagus are ready for harvest?

SpiritoftheFloyd in reply to Shoshov

You're a fair bit further north than I am - actually felt warm here today, when I had a break sat in garden with a coffee. Fence paint is something I need too - might be giving that a miss this year 😢

B&Q is (as of last night any road) still delivering here in Scotland - my husband ordered fencing timber and stain last night and it will all be here Monday. He didn't moan about the cost to deliver so it must still be reasonable.

Good idea. Every single post is about the coronovirus

Becksagogo profile image

I think that the constant tv reporting of the Coronavirus is overwhelming. I have started to limit myself to the news only because then at least you get the facts in one or two bulletins. All emails seem to also be just about Coronavirus even those that come via work!

Me too. I do want information but the constant repetitive going over and over the same things gets quite frightening. Since almost stopping in less stressed

Listen to music too! Have taken a shine to a new station - Scala on our Alexa. It does have news but you’re so taken with the music you tune out. Lots of variety. Very soothing 😍

We have been out on the front lawn for two days on our picnic blanket, with the neighbours cat(very calming to stroke)ploughing through our extra work from school. It has been a great distraction, considering I did German at school and my youngest does French. Not sure how handy it will be when a fight erupts over the last toilet roll or pint of milk in the shops..haha😁💪PE has been Football or Cycling..Engineering has been the scalectric. I am ignoring the scaremongering and just living life and making memories with my Boys as we are all going to be in the History books one day..x Take care put a hat on and remember to drink plenty of water.🌞🌡

I think thats a good move!

I listen to the 5pm briefing and a bit before & a bit after. But this morning I have been listening to the radio and the bitching is starting, I dont think this is the time to start comparing political parties at the moment, we are just at the start of all this.

So I am going to limit it to a strict amount of time around 5pm.

Good idea boo_boo1 xx

I'm normally a radio addict but I've been limiting my listening. Much to my surprise I'm liking the silence. Also doing gardening. Hacked back the ivy which had been growing over my next door neighbour's garage. He's a consultant on the front line, so I thought it was the least I could do. Will get the lawn mower out soon. It's amazing how quickly the soil dries out with a bit of sunshine. I'm watching the daily progress of some tulip bulbs I planted last autumn. Thinks - maybe I should protect them if a sharp frost is due.

Hi, I have stopped watching the news as well, just trying to get the update at some stage during the day but not watching full news programs. It has certainly made me feel better and my sleep has improved as I no longer go to bed worrying what the following day will bring.

Add me to the growing list of Hearties turning off the news. I spent yesterday in relative bliss thanks to deciding not to tune into news until 10pm.

Positive advice. I don't watch or listen to the news anyway and it's only recently I knew it was "crisis".. I was just enjoying the peace and quiet!

The best medicine I have found on this site is Hope. Most everyone has lived through a life threatening situation and survive the bumps along the way. We provide support, community and yes, love, to one another.

I wish newscasters would adopt these attributes in their 24/7 Panic Attacks. Best to just hide the remote and enjoy the blue skies, warm sun shine the discover what truly makes us content.
