I am nearing 4 weeks post triple CABG. One of the graft was taken from left arm. My overall recovery is going well but the left arm thumb feels numb and have needle like pain. I also get occasional unberable electric shock which travel all the way to brain. When I showed it to GP, she just checked the overall strength of thumb i.e. if it can push and pull with full strength . She sees no issues there but I wam worried about those electric shocks in the nerve. Has anyone experienced the same?

I had Aortic valve replaced and bypass 8 years ago, they took my mammary artery for the bypass. The left side of my chest was numb and I would get this pain like an Elastoplast was being ripped off! Sharp pain. When I had my 6 week check with my surgeon, asked about this. Was told when they harvest the arteries they rip it out! So as we start to heal the nerve endings start to heal together and sometimes they get it a bit wrong and this causes the pain ( electric shock) eventually they manage to sort themselves out! He said it would take about 18 months and he was bad on the money.
So hang on in there it will right itself remember what our body as been through. Welcome to your new heart.
