Sertraline?

5 days ago I started taking Sertraline tablets. For the last two days I have a constant headache and feel nauseous.

Anyone else had this problem? To persevere or ask my GP for alternatives?

The frequent advice on here if someone suspects they are suffering from side effects from any medication is to discuss with a pharmacist or better your prescribing health professional likely your GP. That said there is sometimes a bedding in period for some medication and after only 5 days you might still be in that period. If I were you I would see how you are say in another week and if you are still having trouble go see a health professional.

I get near daily headaches which I think are from my SSRI (I'm on escitalopram). But my depression was waaaaay worse than a headache, so I'm not letting anyone touch my prescriptions.

(That being said, nausea would have a much bigger impact on my quality of life, so if I was there I would indeed be looking for an alternative.)

I had the same issues when I started sertraline, it lasted for a couple of weeks then all was good. I did speak to a pharmacist who said it was perfectly normal. It was listed as a side effect on the leaflet (which I should’ve read first 🙄)

sertraline is known to make symptoms worse for the first 2 weeks of taking them. I’m on it 50mg. Stick with it for the two weeks and see how you go. Good luck with it it’s definitely worth it.

Hi Beatlesmad, I started sertraline about a month ago and was feeling slightly nauseous for the first two or three days. When I had my follow up, I was told this is quite normal and to persevere if I could. It did settle down and I was fine after that. I didn’t have headaches though, so can’t advise on that. I have anxiety issues and am pleased to say that I have felt a lot better since I’ve been taking them. Good luck and I hope you get on with them okay 😊😊

I did at first but I pushed through it because without I am very anxious and agitated and stressed which isn't good for my heart ♥️. Been on it since last year feel alot better for it had to have it increased this year from 50 to 100 and might even need another increase I don't know but this year has been the worst year of my life! Anyway sorry for rambling, try to persevere with it but if it's not working for you then definitely go back to the GP and ask for something different x

When I first started on an SSRI (escitalopram) I was prescribed 10 doses of Xanax in case the startup was bumpy. (It wasn't for me. This in itself was a bit of a shock; as a depression sufferer I always assume I'm going to get the worst case.)

Hi. I would give it a little longer to see if it eases. Most side effects like nausea/headache,dry mouth will ease after one or two weeks. Good luck x

I stuck with it for 6 weeks, went through very, very dark thoughts. In the end stopped it myself.
