Sertraline for Tachycardia

Morning,

I have now been told I have anxiety tachycardia (even though not consciously anxious). I have been prescribed a 6 month course of Sertraline which is an anti-depressant. Has anyone else been prescribed this sort of drug for tachycardia or any other condition and if so how did it affect them. I am really unsure about taking this but want my life to get back to normal so am willing to give it a go.

The letter from the hospital stated that there were no rhythm abnormalities, background heart rate was sinus tachycardia but I was able to drop day time heart rate to 62bpm (it can go as low as 35bpm). Interestingly they did not mention night time HR which was meant to be being investigated for a IST diagnosis. So based on that they decided it was an anxiety tachycardia.

Ive had tachy episodes, not sure if mine is anxiety, post covid, insomnia or something else. Was on bisoprolol as and when but then put on it everyday day on a lower dose. Ive got a monitor booked for the end of the month.

With sertraline you might start to feel affects after a week or so it needs to build up in your system to actually work.

My bisoprolol im not sure what affects its properly having but it has calmed my heart rate but then I’m still not sleeping.

Try your meds and if you get any severe reactions speak to your GP

Thanks for your response, I've been on bisoprolol and it never had any effect on my heart but did wonders for blood pressure. I've tried most of the othe drugs used and they either have no effect or I end up feeling very sea sick.I'm just very wary of antidepressants.

Hi Lisell. I was someone who resisted an anti-depressant....though a much trusted GP eventually convinced me to try as he thought I had a kind of Hospital Acquired anxiety/depression, after a long and rocky heart journey, having to pick myself again and again (three HAs and 9 stents, to get fit and positive each time)Just my experience, but fir me Sertraline worked a treat., but it took a few weeks to have a good effect, I was told to stay on it at least 18 months. It was nearly 2 years in the end. I had no trouble coming off.

Hi,

Thanks for you response, I am just very wary because I don't really like antidepressants. I am on day two and so far only side effects I have had are a very dry mouth and feeling queasy. The doc said I should be on them for six months, hopefully they will have shown some result by then.
