Weaning of Ranolazine & Isosorbide Mononitrate

Just wondering what peoples experiences are of weaning off medication.

I had a heart attack nearly 2yrs ago (December 2022). On speaking to my cardiologist we decided I should try and wean off Ranolazine 500mg (twice a day) and Isosorbide Mononitrate 30mg. This was because I have made a lot of changes and feel really good now. I was never over weight but changed the things I eat. I was only 43 at the time of my heart attack.

I had no issues weaning off the Ranolazine. After 2 weeks I was completely off it and was advised to wean off the Isosorbide Mononitrate. A further 2 weeks later I weaned off the Isosorbide Mononitrate but have been feeling odd since. I get a mild chest pain (not like I did initially) and a pain down my left arm and hand. It is mild and more uncomfortable than anything. Has anyone had similar? Any advice?

In the night I do get a very mild chest pain intermittently. My blood pressure has been normal throughout.

I had heart scans and an MRI over a year ago and I was told everything was in good working order. I find it a bit frustrating this happens and it’s like nobody has an explanation for the discomfort and pain.

Thanks in advance,

Why do you want to stop taking those?

Because the cardiologist said he wanted me to wean off it as I’ve been on it for 2years. He said that in the long run it will be better for me. I also feel a lot healthier and better in myself than I did 2yrs ago.

I read through your previous posts and the replies that you received. It appears that further investigation is required in order to resolve the issues you are having. I would suggest that you refer your current symptoms back to your cardiologist. It may be that you need to restart medication or even be prescribed something else. Living with pain cannot be right, especially at your age. There will be a solution to this, it may just take time to find it.
