Isosorbide mononitrate

I have been advised by my GP to take isosorbide mononitrate. After looking at the side effects I am hesitant to take it, as they would seem only to make matters worse. Has anybody had any experience of taking this.

Thanks for your comments. I have only been prescribed 10mg tablets to deal with angina, but it gets tricky because I can have low blood pressure. I was originally on Bisopropol but I kept finding my self on the bathroom floor....lol I have had a recent spell in hospital to deal with an infection where they removed the losartan I was taking because my blood pressure fell so much after. This removal has now been confirmed by my GP. I am light headed most of the time and was worried that the would be made worse now.

I'm on 10mg of Isosorbide mononitrate, I took have low blood pressure. I was originally put on 25mg but I asked my cardiologist to lower the dose. I do keep an eye on my blood pressure. I understand your concerns, have a chat with your Dr. Please let us know how you get on. Best wishes

Hi, I take Isosorbide mononitrate, prolonged release. One of the common side effects is headaches and I suffered with them for 3-4 weeks. I started with just half a tablet (30mg), once the headaches subsided I increased it to 60mg. Never had any issues since.

Hello. I've been taking 10mg twice a day for just over a week (recent Angina diagnosis) The headaches have been pretty bad but seem to be subsiding a little. More recently I've had swollen ankles and tiredness. Tbf, me taking coincided with an active trip abroad which involved lots of walks (and no chest pain!) So I probably could attribute the tiredness to that a little. I'm new to it all but would just keep an eye on symptoms and speak to GP when needed. Best of luck.

I’ve been taking it for 5 years. One of the few meds I’m on which had no side effects x

I got a reaction and felt awful. Consultant immediately put me on Ranolazine as alternative. I've had no problems since and angina is fully controlled. It did take a few weeks to become effective however.

I’ve been taking 30 mg since May. Horrendous headache for 3 weeks now none no chest pain arm pain etc. Big but. Dr. Never mentioned no EDF tablet so no sex but masturbation and that hardly works. Asked chemist he said to stop the chemydor for 24 hours before sex then take my cialis however I’m to scared as my blood pressure is now quite low. So it’s a consideration if sex is still an important part of your life.

Isosorbide mononitrate is has the same effect as the GTN spray. I no longer have to take GTN spray.

I was prescribed it after a severe stenosis diagnosis and it gave me a new lease of life, after a couple of weeks of headaches. Was told to stop taking it after a triple bypass as was no longer needed.
