Question for anyone who was on a beta blocker then came off: did you have side effects after you came off of them?I am having anxiety withdrawal symptoms after weaning off of bisoprolol. Not panic attacks or high pulse rate, but jitteriness, edginess, nervousness, no patience, unable to concentrate. Basically, feeling like my insides are climbing up the wall! I never suffered from anxiety my whole life. This is the only time, so I know it's withdrawal from this medication.
I know that when coming off of any beta blocker, your receptors that were being suppressed by the medicine now have to adjust to 100% of the epinephrine and norepinephrine in your system. And they need time to readjust, or reboot, to how your body worked pre-beta blocker. But does anyone know how long it takes, or how long it took you? It's been 7 weeks since I came off of bisoprolol and I'm still having off and on anxiety (lately, it seems more on than off). And it's really bothersome. I have Xanax to take when I really need it, but I obviously dont want to take it everyday. Plus, I know my PCP won't give me another refill because of the addiction issues with benzos. And I agree. But some days are REALLY BAD, and I just wonder when it's going to end?? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Really sorry to hear this Dogmom, sadly I can’t help you but I’m really interested to see what others post as my consultant told me that I can try stopping my bisoprolol (only 1.25mg) as I had a pretty low resting heart rate prior to nstemi and quadruple CABG (low 50s and it’s now in the 47-48) .
When you say weaned off , how did you do that , take a tablet every other day for example? Do you feel any different having stopped ? Any change in heart rate ? Thank you for sharing .
Yeah every other day..I felt they were the reason for my lightheadedness reacting with my sugar medication and as you have literally got to be your own doctor I tried this..my blood pressure still low like it was while on them.
You have my full sympathy. I have been to hell and back with it, both while I was on it and coming off. I have now been put on valium reluctantly to try and help. Some people seem to have no problems and others suffer. I am susceptible to some medications which makes things difficult . I am still struggling at 10 weeks off and I was only on 1.25.
I'm from the US. My doctor gave me Xanax to use when I need it (no refills). Which is fine because I don't want to worry about getting addicted to that. And up to this point, I've only had to use it 2 days every 2 weeks. But this week, not sure why, has been HORRIBLE! I've taken 1 pill every day the last 4 days. Low dose (25 mg) but still. I figured at 8 weeks out, I would be filling much better than this. That's what has me worried. If I knew what to take or do, I'd do it.
Really interesting replies, I am on 1.25mg as well and was going to ask my GP if I could stop the tablet. From peoples responses, I am not so sure now.
9 months after surgery I was still not feeling well. Getting out of breath going up stairs etc. I had suspected the bisoprolol for a few months. Had various tests at the heart institute and everything was ok. GP advised stopping bisoprolol for a month to see how I got on and alsmost immediately I felt fit and well and the breathlessness went.
I had absolutely no problems but I was only on the lowest dose. I actually felt far far better without it as it had completely knocked me for 6 . However I have often read that it should be reduced gradually....
And it never fails to amaze me that people like you don't know the difference between an opinion and a fact. When something is backed by scientific evidence and proof, it is called a fact. Scientists and doctors have been able to prove the causes behind depression and anxiety by studying and gathering proof over the years.Just because you don't like a fact doesn't make it an opinion.
Maybe try googling opinion versus fact, and what they both entail.
No, I believe it's a fact because it has scientific evidence to back it up. THAT'S why it is a fact. And I refuse to engage with people who will not accept facts just because they don't like them.
Wrong actually - I stood up to bullies like you and still do! Hence the reporting.
