I've been off bisoprolol now for 3 months and I still don't feel like my "pre-bisoprolol" self.I came off because of side effects: light headedness and anxiety. The first 1-2 months off weren't bad, just sporadic anxiety. But this 3rd month off has been like hell on earth due to the horrible anxiety, which I never suffered from before bisoprolol. The past 1 1/2 weeks, I've been taking CBD gummies (without the thc) that has seemed to be helping. But even so, I still don't feel like myself, like that inner calmness that I use to have. And it's already been 3 months since I came off.
I know everyone is different, but for anyone who suffered from withdrawal symptoms, how long did they last after coming off bisoprolol? And how long until you felt like your old self again?

Hi I really feel for you, it gave me terrible side effects on it and took a while to get out of my system once off, perhaps 6 months, it has a long 'half life' in the body. Do you now take other drugs that might be contributing? I find NuLeaf CBC very good from a UK website, it does not affect my heart in any detrimental way and is very calming before bed. miracleleaf.co.uk/nuleaf-na... Also magnesium is excellent especially magnesium taurate, I take this one before bed: elivide.com/products/magnes... - it is both good for heart and calming.
I think the other thing to bear in mind is that the heart itself can make us feel anxious, and I found coming off bisoprolol gave me racing heart for a while and this in itself feels like anxiety. .... if that makes sense.
I'm not currently on any new drugs that might be adding to the anxiety. I was on it for 2 years for an erratic BP (which ironically, is better off of it than when I was on it). I didn't have any racing heart issues on it, or when I came off. I expected some withdrawal after coming off. But I expected to go from worse to better, not the other way around. So, I'm a little perplexed about that.I'm from the US, but I have been taking a good CBD (non thc), along with magnesium glycinate which is supposed to help anxiety. I've just added L-Theanine, so we'll see if that helps. It's now been 3 months since I came off, so I hope this nightmare is wrapping up soon, lol.
I'm just so frustrated, and mad. I just want to get that inner calmness I once had before I started this crap med!
I totally understand, it is horribly frustrating! My biggest problems on bisoprolol were total insomnia and ear congestion and pain. It took about 6 months to dissipate, but they did go away. And I was only taking it for about 6 months!! So if you been taking it 2 yrs it may take a while to get completely out of your system unfortnuately but take heart that you will in time. Sorry you are suffering like this. It really is ghastly to be ruled by something like constant anxiety that you know is physically caused by a medication withdrawel. You might find Trudy Scott useful, she specializes in anxiety caused by the body being out of homeostasis due to body's biochemistry. Her book is the Anti-Anxiety Food Solution and focuses on helpful diet and supplement ideas, and this is her website: everywomanover29.com/blog/
Thanks. I'll look it up. I've just started taking CBD (non thc) and L Theanine to try and help. If I can add anything else to help, I'm all for it. Thanks again! 😊
You're welcome. And I agree there have been quite a few posts about people asking for help and advice after coming off bisoprolol, and new anxiety as a result being one of the withdrawel effects. Some people say it is psychological, but you and I know it is not and we know our own bodies better than anyone else. Hopefully you'll get more ideas and kind advice here.💜
I can’t imagine that 3 months later, anything you’re feeling is still due to stopping your BB. Have you looked at other things which may be causing your symptoms?
I became anxious for the first time in my entire life at about 51 and it was due to being perimenopausal. It also caused fatigue, irritability, sore muscles, headaches and a range of other things.
Actually, I've read A LOT of posts from different sites where people have had anxiety, along with other symptoms, for months after discontinuing bisoprolol. I started menopause early, about 9 years ago, and never suffered from anxiety during that time, or during the time i was going through perimenopause. And I'm not on any new drugs that would be causing this issue.Bisoprolol's main action is to block your receptors from receiving stress hormones (epinephrine and norepinephrine) for months or years, so instead of dealing with 100% of them, you only have to deal with a fraction of them. Then when you come off, your body now has to deal with 100% of your adrenaline like before bisoprolol. Some people's systems adjust better than others. I was just hoping my system would be readjusted by now.
Really? I haven’t personally come across anyone experiencing withdrawal effects from bisoprolol after three months, but everyone’s experience can be different of course. Since you’re still feeling symptoms, it might be worth speaking with all those people you mentioned who’ve reported similar issues to see if they found any ways to cope!
I have been. I have got a few ideas and words of encouragement. I'm just seeking others who are also still suffering to see if they might have any ideas that I haven't tried or heard of yet.
