The anniversary of my hospital discharge from my Nstemi and stent happened six days ago so I stopped taking my Ticagrelor. Not sure what to expect but it all has been positive, occasional breathlessness seems to have gone away. Things do feel different in my chest but it’s hard to explain, occasional palpitations also gone. Done a park run this morning breathing seems to be easier heart rate average 125bpm.
Also on my anniversary date my GP surgery contacted me to get my bloods checked, which surprised me as I seemed to have to do much of the chasing.

Thankyou for the post. I am due to stop mine at the end of December so not sure what to expect as well. At the moment the bruising I am getting from a small bump, or maybe even no bump is very common and sometimes severe. Although the cardiac nurse said "good, it means the thinners are working" . Hopefully this will reduce after I stop this med.
Must admit I am a little apprehensive to change or remove any medication, as am stable after the HA, but do understand why the Ticagrelor needs to be stopped.
Hi I was really concerned about stopping Ticagrelor after 4 years. Just a few weeks to go now. But a very special person called Roy 😇 explained the reason why you take them after stents. I can't wait to stop them. Apparently no side effects. Happy Days.❤
Hi there how you doing, sounds like your about 9 months in front of me, I had HA at Easter 3 stents and the usual meds, back driving HGV feel absolutely fine, fitter no side effects, just want to ask did you just stop the twice daily ticagrelor after a year or was it the doctor who took you off and are there any other meds to stop? I've just turned 63, like to hear your thoughts please if possible, thanks
Hi Rickstarr, I took Ticagrelor twice daily and my hospital discharge notes stated to be stopped after 12 months. The only medication I’m taking going forward is a Statin, Rampril , Lanszoprasol and Asprin.
I am 6 months in. When I did my re-hab I asked about stopping Tricagrelor after a year, and what to do, and I was told that would need to confirm it with my doctor, not just go ahead, as in some cases it continues for a bit, so when I get to my year anniversary I will contact my gp for confirmation. It is reassuring to hear there aren’t really any bad side effects of giving up, and I too get occasional breathlessness - I used to get asthma but this is very different, (all checked with doc) and I assume it is heart/meds related, it would be very nice for that to go, so thank you for the info.
After my stents, I was on Aspirin and Ticagrelor in April 2023, for 12 months. But after readmission in December, that all changed, no longer on the above, instead on Clopidogrel and Apixaban. The Clopidorel stopped this June.
I think it all depends on how your heart/body has reacted in time to the meds.
