Ticagrelor

I had a heart attack in 2020. I had 3 stents one which they call a kiss as it looks like a kiss which can cause a blockage and I have a leaking valve. I was prescribed many meds after, but not all was suitable. So many months of adjustments but eventually we got there. I had a brilliant consultant and was fortunate to have a good GP. So now 4 years later I'm due to stop Ticagrelor. I'm so worried. Unfortunately my Gp has left, I don't know any of the other Doctors. Anyone else been on Ticgrelor as long as me who has now stopped. Would love to hear from yoy

Hello :-)

I took it for a couple of years as I did not have stents after my first heart attack went on to have two more heart attacks and then a triple Bypass

So many do not like taking this med and get side effects you obviously have suited it and in your mind maybe it has become like a security blanket knowing that you are on that drug keeping your blood thin but they would never stop them if they did not think we were ok to do so in a way that is a good thing that you have come this far

When I stopped mine I did not notice any difference except less bruisers , a little cut would not bleed as much and like most I take Aspirin now

I am sorry the Doctor that you had a good relationship has left I do hope one of the other Doctors you will be able to build a new relationship with even though I know when we get used to one Doctor we can feel a little insecure if they leave but put your trust in them they know what they are doing

There are some really good BHF Nurses you can phone and talk this through with them they may be able to ease your worries and talk you through it :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

I was on it for a year, no issues at all stopping, I was glad to finish because of the random bruising and how long it took cuts and scrapes to stop bleeding (24 hours for one bad scrape).

I had a heart attack in 2017 and had 1 stent. I like you was put on Ticagrelor it did cause bruising but not severe, initially I was put on it for one year but I read that NICE advised that it was advisable to remain on it for 4 years and thought they wouldn’t be saying that for nothing and paying so I contacted my GP who referred me to heart consultant and I took it for 4 years.

Like you as the time came close to stopping it after all that time I was very apprehensive and couldn’t seem to find out whether you stopped it gradually or just abruptly stopped it, it had become a safety blanket I felt very safe whilst taking it. In the end I was advised to just stop taking it and the first few weeks I was worried there might be a reaction but there wasn’t and I have been fine since then no heart problems at all and I have now gone 3 years from the last day I took Tigacgrelor so hopefully I have given you some reassurance that it will be fine to just stop it but I know how you feel.
