I’m all ready for my operation to replace my aortic valve tomorrow morning. Hopefully first down at 8am.

Scared but positive.

This group has helped me so much ❤️‍🩹

Good luck to anyone else who’s having their surgery x

You’ll be in our thoughts tomorrow and the coming days. I was in your shoes in June last year. I’d just had an emotional farewell with Hubby and was feeling a bit sorry for myself - when in bustled a nurse and enquired whether I had a hairy chest and would it need shaving…? The horrified look on my face must have said it all - because she apologised and said they have to ask! She then proceeded to rustle up 2 of the most disgusting electrolyte drinks that I’ve ever had the misfortune to taste and cheerfully informed me, that I’d have another 2 in the morning before theatre. (They’re potassium and magnesium, which help support the heart and sadly have a taste like toilet cleaner smells). Ask for them to be made up like shots - not like a long drink. The quicker they’re gone, the better. Trust me!

Next, you’ll be presented with the anti-bacterial shampoo / body wash to shower with and to complete the makeover and ‘glow-up’ - a hair net to wear in theatre. Then come the support stockings - which would do Nora Batty proud. Glamorous surgery this is not.

Just remember that for the surgeons tomorrow, this is what they do every week. Whilst this is massive for us, it’s routine for them. They’re at the top of their game and have a team working alongside them, who are all specialists in what they do. You’ve got this! We’ll be looking forward to reading your update once you’re back on the ward.

Take Care!❤️‍🩹

You are in my thoughts as you'll be on the way now! As others have said, it's normal for the surgeon so look forward to hearing from you in a day or so.

very best wishes for your op. I had much the same op 18 months ago, it was life saving and life changing. The care I was given (NHSWales) was excellent, as I’m sure yours will be.
