Worrywart24!
hi,
I was told in December 2022 that I had heart failure. In February 2023 I was told I needed a mitral valve repair and estimated wait would be 3 months.
I didn’t know I had a problem. I was struggling to walk far without being breathless, feeling faint and dizzy, very tired. Had put it down to menopause and recent death of my dad.
The waiting was the worst. I was eventually operated on 31 January this year. Almost exactly 12 months after being given a 3 month estimation.
Takes a little while to get back on track. I was back at work part time after 13 weeks and full time after 4 months.
I had my first two foreign holidays this summer.
I walked my first ten miles two weeks ago and did the same last weekend.
Other than a frozen shoulder, I feel like I did 5 years ago.
Any specific questions feel free to message.
Good luck and keep in touch x
Hi. The wait for the op was worst bit for me.
I had a mitral valve repair done at the end of Feb, instead of 2 days in ICU, spent 5 days with a collapsed lung. Writing this whilst sat by a pool in Crete, the recovery takes time, do what the doctors and nurses tell you. Take up any cardio-rehab the hospital or any organisation offer its invaluable.
My mitral valve was leaking severely, 50 years old and was asymptomatic, i was back to work doing a manual job (landscape gardening) after 12 weeks. Do i feel better ? Yes maybe not as much as someone suffering with symptoms beforehand like breathlessness etc
100% nothing worry about.
If someone told me i needed the op again it wouldn't faze me.
