Hi back again still getting strange feelings in chest area, and still getting dizzy spells when straighten up when at work with double vision at times, trying to get appointment with Gp over the past three days every time i phone up first thing big que on the phone ,havent got time to wait on the phone need to get work , when i try a bit later they say either there only dealing with emergences or all appointments already gone, or they give a time when their,s no chance of getting their on time . i.e 10 minutes from when i,ve phoned them . Drives me up the bloody wall. Some time feels that my pulse rate is low . Took blood pressure when i got home 126 /76. Been on Bisoprolol 1.25 for 6 weeks now you think i would be use to the side effects now , if that,s what it is !

Hello :-)

I do not have much luck but I maybe have one of the best Doctors and because she knows I struggle so much she phones me twice a week and is on the phone up to an hour but when she has been away and I have needed to contact the surgery I can relate to what you are saying

When I have phoned the surgery though and there is that long que I put my phone on loudspeaker have it near me and so I can carry on doing things while I am waiting but not sure if you would want to do that while at work and also I wondered if you do need to see the Doctor and they offered you an appointment would work just let you go for an hour as I can imagine they would hopefully understand

Your BP is fine though so that is a positive and I have to say my anxiety can make my vision go funny and I know you get anxious

If it helps though I am really struggling again to so you are not on your own

I hope you get a Doctors appointment and what about asking for a telephone appointment would that be any use to you or do you literally want to see them whichever way I hope how you feel soon passes it has before so remember that and it will this time to :-) x

Sorry to hear your having problems I,m going to try again tomorrow, I,ll try and keep the phone near me on speaker, not always easy, and depends how long down the queue on the phone I am, another thing I,ve noticed that I keep getting a pulse feeling under my left eye the past week. I would rather have a face to face talk with the doctor, prolem is some of the doctors are good and some of the others rush you in and out within a couple of mins not really listening to you. Leaving work I can do any time I,m work for myself ,but it can be a bit awkward.

Hello :-)

Give that a go putting your phone on loud speaker I get all sorts done and still hear them when they answer so fingers crossed that might work for you to :-)

The pulse under your eye I get that and can see my eye underneath move mine and lots get it now and again is a little nerve twitching do you think maybe it could be the same happening with you ?

A bonus that you work for yourself and even though maybe a little difficult to just leave when you want if needs must then hopefully you will and I agree some Doctors are better than others

I would say how about a pre booked appointment but the good Doctors they can be booked up for weeks so that no doubt wont be an option

I do hope you manage to get in and see one and will look out to see how you get on :-) x

Hi Do you start work at 8am? If not could you have your phone on headphones, loud speaker or through the car so your in the queue while your travelling?

we have the same process, but I start phoning at 7:58am and I keep dialling again and again and again in quick succession till I get answered and into the queue. I usually get into at least the top 5! But it means it will be a morning appointment. There’s method in my madness!

One day a week you can call after 4pm to book an appointment for the following week and there is more flexibility.

Never easy but there is always a way!

Good luck!

I did try what you said about phoneing in quick succession just before 8,when I finally got through I was42 in list ,I think that they deal with people who have e mailed them first,

Just a thought but worth a try- My surgery puts a few appointments on the NHS app for patients when they sign in, around midnight to 2am. It may not be the GP you want but it is a GP. 🤷‍♀️ Failing that ring 111 and explain the situation maybe. Or if no luck at all contact PALS. You should be able to access a GP.

Thanks for that

Hi,If you're a long way down the queue it's worth waiting as a lot of people are like yourself and drop out, meaning you move up the queue pretty quickly.

each doctors surgery has a different way of booking appointments.

My brother-in-law is the chair of the patients committee at his practice and he s arranged a really helpful system there.

At my surgery you can do an EConsult, but only for about an hour or so each morning. This is where you fill in a form nd they guarantee to get back to you within two working days with a phonecall. BUT if I go in to the surgery, in person , there’s no queue or only a minute wait, and I can explain to the receptionist what the issue is and why I need an appointment or whatever. Might that work for you?

Thanks ,I,ll try and look into this.

Patience is a virtue - Bisop' is a strange one and even on such a low dose can have these side effects - also your heart will take at least 6 months to re-adapt !

Thanks I,ll take that in mind

Sorry to hear this. I couldn’t take Bisoprolol. You could see how taking it at night goes or half at night and morning. Which country are you in?

Apart from other comments here, remember your blood pressure can be different when you straighten up or stand up (it may drop) - which is why docs may take it while you are lying and then when you stand. I hope you get through to the GP and can be assessed properly.

I used to take my bisoprolol at night as it made me dizzy as it can lower heart rate too low sometimes, not on it now though. Here I can fill a form online for Dr and if they need to they ring me that day and either give me a face to face or phone call, things seem to be getting g easier but good luck

Hi I've been on 1.25 of bisoprol for 8 years now still don't think I'm used to it as for feeling dizzy when straighten up I've also had that for 8 years and the only way round it is to come up slowly not to quick.

As for GP Appointments sympathise with you there good luck.

Does your surgery not have a system where you can request an appointment online by filling out a form with your symptoms. I would think your symptoms would get you an appointment very quickly. That's what I have found myself. Hope you get some help. Brian

Hi.

Another possible route for you is email.

Go to the NHS find a GP website;

nhs.uk/service-search/find-...

find your GP and go to their information, there will be a contact section where you should find an email address.

You can then email your doctor about your issues. It is probably worth stating that you are emailing because of your issue with making an appointment via the telephone. If you don't hear back call them and say you have sent an email and ask how long it normally takes and ask them to get the doctor to look at it sooner.

As well as electronic messages you can send a physical letter which you can post or hand deliver.

Other options;

Call your surgery out of hours as there should be an out of hours message saying what is available. You may get an appointment via that route.

Call 111. They also might be able to triage you and request your GP make an appointment for you.

For all of the above, make sure you spell out all the details including your concerns (e.g. that you may fall and hurt yourself if you are feeling dizzy) and any impact it is having to your work. All this information helps them understand how to prioritise you.

One last tip if your surgery call handling system has a long message before you get added to a queue you may find that pressing a key or sequence of keys bypasses that.

I hope one of these suggestions helps you move forward.

I was exactly the same, passing out in the bathroom after using the toilet and dizzy going upstairs. My blood pressure was low and my heart rate was in the low 40s. I spoke to my GP and asked if i could come off it. To which the brusk reply was no as i had been given it by the cardiac team. Being me and stubborn thats exactly what i did with no ill effects.

I does your surgery use E consult, I find that’s good way of getting through to the docs
