I posted earlier in the week to get support and reassurance as my partner was getting a BiVAD fitted and I was absolutely terrified of the procedure..
Turns out I was right to be. He appeared fine when he arrived back to the ICU from theatre, but he went into respiratory failure. I’m absolutely devastated.
They done a CT scan which showed he had a 4.5cm clot above his heart and over 1L of fluid on his lungs, and had to go back to theatre the next day to get this removed. Fast forward to today, and he’s still in an induced coma, four days later.
Just seems he’s not been able to catch a break in the whole 6 weeks he’s been in hospital, I just want us to go home together, with his new heart and for this to all he a distant memory 💔

So sorry to hear this. He’s still very young and I’m sure he’s getting the best care. If you need to vent you can always come on here and do so. We will be here to listen and support you. Do try and eat to keep up you strength for him. Please continue to let us know how he’s getting on. A few have been in roughly the same position as you and they have found it helps. Wishing you both all the best xx
I am so sorry to read your post it must be so hard for you and his family and I can only imagine you want him home and yet at the moment it must seem out of sight but please do not give up on that thought keep focused on it
We have had members that their partners have been on a roller coaster lasting months one minute things improving the next seems it has all gone backwards yet now they are home and doing so well so stay strong
Let us know how you get on and how he is doing and make sure you get some rest and support from family and friends x
so sorry to hear of this latest set back, we were so hoping to hear that this procedure would have given him some relief. Although it’s not what you want to hear, he is in the best possible place and receiving the best possible care.
He’s clearly a fighter and his age probably has a lot to do with that. This induced coma will give his body time to rest and make this situation less stressful for him. Of course there’s no respite for you or the family having to stand by and watch this all unfold.
As everyone has said, look after yourself, stay strong and never stop believing.
I am sorry to hear of his ongoing problems but he is young the induced coma is giving his body time to heal As others have said it happens in more people than you think Don't despair stay strong and look after yourself he will need you to be fit and well when he finally gets home
I am so sorry for what happened. What I can discern from your writing, you are being managed by the best of modern cardiology and he will be soon out of the woods and make a speedy recovery. I was in a similar situation but made it to full recovery. Wish you all the best.
