Hi, I hope everyone is well. I collected my medication today which was for Eplerenone 25mg, however the box says Erythromycin 250mg but the label says Eplerenone 25mg. Does anyone know if they are both the same? I have checked on Google but can't see a connection between the two. Grateful for any info. Thank you.

Erythromycin 250mg and Eplerenone 25mg - are they both the same?
Hi PK they are completely different drugs. Erythromycin is an antibiotic and Eplenerone is for blood pressure. This is a labelling error. It's a bad mistake and you should not be taking antibiotics if prescribed meds for blood pressure.I hope you can get it sorted.
Hope this helps.
Aldosterone antagonist type of potassium-sparing diureticEplerenone is an aldosterone antagonist type of potassium-sparing diuretic1. It is used to treat chronic heart failure and high blood pressure, particularly for patients with resistant hypertension due to elevated aldosterone1. Eplerenone belongs to a class of medications called mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists2. It works by blocking the action of aldosterone, a natural substance in the body that raises blood pressure2.
Erythromycin is an antibiotic. It's widely used to treat chest infections, such as pneumonia, skin conditions, such as acne and rosacea, dental abscesses, and sexually transmitted infections.
In children, erythromycin is often used to treat ear infections or chest infections.
It’s available on prescription as tablets, capsules, a liquid you swallow or a skin solution to treat skin conditions like acne. It can also be given by injection, but this is usually only done in hospital.
My goodness Chinkoflight, you are very knowledgeable. I'm in the severe category for heart muscle failure and don't want to be taking the wrong meds. Thanks again and much appreciated.
sounds like a serious dispensing error. Go straight back to pharmacy and get it sorted
