I was doing so well, going to rehab exercising etc

All of a sudden have developed severe new pain in my lower ribs and middle of my sternum, so bad it takes my breath away! I’m still a cocktail of high strength pain relief following the surgery.

Saw the surgeon well his junior last week, but he didn’t even know what I’d had done and got it wrong when I asked questions, doesn’t fill you with confidence!

I’m terrified something bad is going on, but can’t seem to get any answers or taken seriously. The pain is intense and worse than in the initial post op period.

Hello :-)

I can imagine it does not fill you full of confidence if the Doctor does not know what you have had done

I wonder if you have been doing to much as the sternum does take a while to fully heal

I know if I did more I would get pains here and there but they did go and when I asked they would always ask me what I had been doing and it usually was I had been doing more

Try and get to see your Doctor or if you get that feeling it is not right I would go to A&E and have it checked out

You could phone the BHF Nurses as they are very good or if you still have your own Rehab Nurses contact number you could give them a ring as well

Let us know how you get on :-) x

how long ago was your surgery? I'm just wondering if you have an unhappy sternum wire. They can just irritate or develop an infection.

I had the same symptoms when I was 10weeks post surgery, it can happen any time.

Ask to see your specialist or surgeon, a junior dr might not spot it as there’s nothing to see. Good luck

well still no answers! CT scan didn’t show anything apart from Pleural effusion that hasn’t gone, only minor though so not conclusive.

Liver function still not normal, but looks ok on ultrasound!

No clots.

So discharged in pain with morphine and no idea why! I’m hoping infection that clears quickly but terrified it’s liver or heart damage!!
